Find Peace And Joy In Salvation … Not The Car You Drive

Habakkuk 1 – 3

Verse 1:4 seems to be where we are at today:

So the law is paralysed,
and justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
so justice goes forth perverted.

It seems like this always eventually becomes the case as is happening today. In the early 1990’s we were in a similar banking crisis called the “S&L Scandal” where banks were making risky loans and regulators and politicians were paid off. Bill Black and his team put thousands of bankers in jail. They learned there lesion and pushed more money and influence so this time around no one is being touched even though BILLIONS have been looted from the people. No one cares anymore in power, because what Habakkuk saw thousands of years ago is happening again.

I have personal experience with the bankers and a corrupt system. Not to get into the details our case was ignored and the system was perverted for the side of the bank. Even though I have mounds of evidence and precedence that what they did was wrong, they had three lawyers doing research during the trial to find an obscure case that appeared to support their argument. In review it didn’t match this case, but mine did. The result was the lawyers and banks won, I did not appeal and lost $40,000.

Verse 2:20 is often ignored by us:

But the LORD is in his holy temple;
let all the earth keep silence before him.

We need to ask questions and strive to know the truth, but we also need to know when we are to submit and be quiet. God is sovereign over all and often we forget that. Instead of being in awe we complain about our everyday tasks in life. Sometimes we just need to submit and realize we have to clean the gutters, patch the roof and go to work for “the man” to live a full and happy life. A lottery win will not help! What will is hard work, no debt and generous giving to others; interestingly if we just were silent we would see that in the Bible.

Verse 3:18 ends with a great comment:

yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

How many times do we really do this? Again I point to the cleaning gutters and hard work mentioned previously to gain joy. We need to be happy with our “lot” in life, be it swimming in cash or living on the help of others, our joy should come from the salvation received in our Lord, Jesus!
