Psalm 93:5 –
Your royal laws cannot be changed. Your reign, O Lord, is holy forever and ever.
This is a short Psalm and basically compares God’s unchanging nature to floods and rough seas. It used to be hard to imagine damage from water. Sure we would see rising flood waters, but really never saw the immense power of the act as it happens. At least until recently with the tsunamis that have hit Japan and southern Asia in recent years. It’s hard to imagine watching cities get was away by water in a matter of a few seconds.
But now this Psalm takes on new meaning after seeing the power that water can have at volumes moving fast. Interestingly I watched Jars of Clay “Flood” for my praise time and after the video they had a link to a flash flood video. It was like watching the tsunami videos again only this time it was only trees and other large “natural” objects getting move around. People don’t tend to build in areas prone to flash floods. As we look at the entire Psalm, this solidness of God’s “throne” and “law” is more clearly understood.
One may argue Jesus changed the “Law” and therefore it did change. But again I think you need to remember Jesus came to “fulfill” the Law not remove it! Everyone reads the “Law” and gets hung up one the eating laws or the sacrificial laws and says the law is no longer valid. Well the Jesus fulfilled the sacrificial aspects to the law, but not the rest. Is it a sin to eat pork still? I question if it ever was! I believe God set up “boundaries” so we could live a full life and one of them was food. If you eat outside God’s guide you risk a lower immune system and ingesting toxic impurities, not death in the eternal flames of hell. Look at the law and God with a different perspective; we can live our lives in peace knowing that they are solid!
