Walking With Jesus

Well I am trying to at least. Today is day two of my long
journey to the west coast, part II. Our life in Georgia is over as a resident,
for the time being, and we are starting afresh in a new land. As I reflect back
on my life I notice one thing when I am walking with Jesus things tend to be
smoother, not “easy”.

If you have lived anything more than a year you know that
there is no such thing as an “easy” life and as a Christian we know “smooth”
can be quite ugly at times. So please if you are “new” to the faith don’t think
knowing Jesus will suddenly end all your troubles. Knowing and walking with
Jesus just gives clarity on things, why prayers are answered and why they are
not.

1 John 1:7 talks about our walk:

Genuine Christians walk habitually
in the light (truth and holiness) not in darkness (falsehood and sin). Their
walk also results in cleansing from sin as the Lord continually forgives his
own. Since those walking in the light share in the character of God, they will
be habitually characterized by HIS holiness, indicating their true fellowship
with him. A genuine Christian does not walk in darkness but only in the light,
and cleansing from sin continually occurs.

Let this sink in and really ponder. First take from this is
walking with God has a “continuous” cleansing of sin, meaning we are always
sinning. We can become legalistic nuts, but honestly when an attractive lady
walks by I tend to get distracted. When I let it go, the thoughts drift away
from holiness God expects.

It never once says that our life will be easy, but rather
only that we will not let darkness overtake us when we sin. Also, we will not
let life eat us up when things go south, which they will. God does not control free
will and unfortunately the free will of other men can destroy your life even
when you are walking with God closely. God did not set up this planet so He
could be the puppet master and control everything. Heck the joy He has is
watching the successes that happen when we follow His path diligently.

Anyway I am getting ready to head out and am enjoying the
quite time with God, so far we have talked, we have sung, we have laughed and
we have cried. I must look like a crazy guy to others!! But I have decided to
put aside the radio for most of the trip and just ponder life and see what
comes up in my head to help live right with God.

The key to walking with God is to walk diligently and daily.
When you stumble, know it will happen, so just get back up confess your sins
and return to His holiness. We just need to do it and do it daily no matter
what comes up.
