Gumdrops and Lollypops!?!!

“Money is just a
number and numbers never end. If it takes money to be happy, your search for
happiness will never end.” – Bob Marley

In the Bible Paul
in 1 Timothy 6:10 says:

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted
after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.

In both quotes
money is not the problem it’s thinking it will solve them. I can honestly say
money makes things nicer, but the problems will always exist. There will always
be relational problems, there will always be mechanical problems and they will
always be things that happen outside our control. Life was never meant to be
simple and carefree.

My favorite “cult”
today is The Zeitgheist Movement since they somehow think utopia exists
without money. The Venus Project will make a society with plenty where no one
has to work and everything is gumdrops and lollypops. It’s insane that people
actually buy into this crap, no matter what the society is like, someone will
have to work to keep things running and they will want something more for that
effort. Someone will always want more than they have allotted to them or lust
for the others “woman” or whatever. It has always failed without God … and even
there it has always had problems.

Now I digress a bit from the point, but the key is not to
let money rule the roost. No, one needs to manage it

under
Godly principles, but not obsess over
it. Once the obsession takes over it quickly removes us from God or makes the
relationship like a slot machine where every prayer is pulling Jesus’ arm for
the big jackpot. It makes the relationship one-sided since God tends to tune
you out at that point.

Make money something to live with and God to live for, not
the other way around!

If you think about it in the secular world money is the
number 2 subject for songs and movies over love. Don’t fall into the trap of “I’d
rather cry in my Mercedes than on a bicycle.” It may be nicer, but it doesn’t
change the pain. Hence work on the pain and not the perceived solution. Don’t
find yourself crying so much and have the joy of God’s love.

I know this is a “cliché alert” but God will not provide
gumdrops and lollypops, but He will provide perspective so you can have peace
be it sunshine and blue skies or a raging storm.
