The Bible mentions Jesus’ birth but does not mention a time
or how anyone celebrated it afterwards. Also, the Bible is clear on when Jesus’
death was in relationship to the Passover, but has that been altered? Since
many Christian’s are CE Christians or Christmas/Easter church attenders we can
look into these dates today. Many against our faith are saying that Christianity
is a mixing of other pagan religions.
This has gained traction since many pagan holidays fall
around these two dates. The winter solstice happens just before Christmas and
many say that since it falls three days after the event it is showing Jesus’
story of his death. Easter falls in a pagan ritual for spring.
Now I will admit that many customs associated with these holidays
have pagan roots, like the Easter bunny. At the same time the Bible never
mentions an Easter bunny or anything remotely related to fertility. Over time
we have merged this into our celebrations until Jesus has been almost removed
from each celebration. It’s sad we take time to celebrate these events and
Jesus has been lost in candy and overdone consumerism. The meaning has been
lost and one could argue that was the original intent.
Paul and the other disciples never wrote about taking time
to celebrate Jesus’ death or birth, other than communion. With that they never
said on this day of the year we shall celebrate it, but rather to do so in
remembrance of His crucifixion. No special day, no bunnies, no sugar coma but
rather remembering when Jesus died, rose and what it was for.
We should be celebrating Jesus daily, not just Sundays
or two special days of the year!! Think about what He has given us!! Eternal
presence with God in Heaven! What more could you ask for? I am not saying END
Easter and Christmas but rather refocus the attention from what it has become
to Jesus. Problem we have entered into is society looks at you as crazy for not
celebrating it with gifts and candy, but that is the key! WE ARE TO BE SALT AND
LIGHT NOT CONFORMING TO WHAT ARE SOCIAL NORMS!!
