Being “Left Behind” May Be Good!!

Had an interesting discussion on the “rapture” after
watching another group predicting that the end date was September 23, 2015. I
have heard this from a Biblical perspective, and economic and astrological one
since a comet will pass the earth soon also. What does the Bible really say
about the rapture? Nothing really, the word “rapture” is not in any version I
have read. Matthew 24:40 is the basis of the event where followers of Jesus will
be lifted up:

 Then shall
two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Now this does not say WHO is taken other that one remains.
Why do we assume that the followers of Jesus will be taken up? What if WE are “left
behind” and the corrupt and evil are raptured to the fire? There are clear
references to those being cast into the “lake of fire” in Revelations, so why
not an event like the rapture?

Before you poo-poo this idea read the parable of the weeds
in Matthew 13:24 – 30 and focus on verse 30:

 Let both
grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the
reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn
them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

They are both growing together like today, but the
weeds are burned FIRST and then the wheat is brought to “my barn”. So while you
see discussions of a rapture happening BEFORE the “tribulation” understand
there is really no Biblical foundation for this (and I am sure this will blow
up a discussion). I read that believers will endure the hardship and come out
the other end victorious with God. Why freak out about what will happen? Do you
really fear Satan? Remember who is OUR pilot!! 

Talking With God

I was initially going to title this “Talking To God” which
makes it seem like a one-way communication. Although I have never heard and
audible word from God, I know many whom I trust who have. What I have “heard”
was the Word of God. More than once I have asked questions of God and found the
answers quickly in the Bible. Often the answer coincidentally corresponded to
my upcoming readings, sometimes I randomly came across the answer and occasionally
I would stumble into a sermon or teaching that directly addressed my problem.

God talks to us in our life daily and is so often dismissed.
Ever had one of those “Twilight Zone” experiences that cannot be explained.
Look to God before thinking it’s dumb luck. So often I can look back and piece
together events in my life and see God’s fingerprint. Sometimes these experiences
are not pleasant and seem catastrophic but when viewed in the larger picture
one can see the purpose.

Take me croaking on May 17, 2014, if our “plans” had been
enacted we would not have been in Suwanee, but living in the middle of nowhere.
The end result would have been my final passing if OUR plans were met. God knew
this and things got delayed to our frustration. If I had my cardiac arrest in
my new home, the ambulance if we were lucky would have been 20 to 30 minutes
away, the hospital would have been an additional 30 minutes out and the
hospital was not the best facility. Instead the EMT’s were 5 minutes away, the
hospital was very close and had cutting edge technology. That “perfect”
combination saved by life.

So was that combination one of chance or did God alter the circumstances
I was trying to force knowing I had a heart condition? I can look at hundreds
of small little events, some of which had me upset, that in total put us in a
perfect spot and kept me alive to enjoy it!! So when we talk “to” God be open
to receive what HE has to say!! We may at the time think it stinks but we will
eventually see the purpose or God will repurpose it for God if you allow Him.

What I am thinking about here is a friend from college and
church whose son was paralyzed in a skiing accident. I personally cannot see
the good that has come of this and cannot see God having a hand in that event,
but I can see the steadfast devotion to Jesus he has had through this mess.

I think the key is to always have communication with
God and this means taking time to LISTEN!!

Another Thought on Genesis 1 and Science

As you know science’s most ardent attacks are against
Genesis 1. Honestly, most theists today do not believe Genesis 1 completely anymore.
Even the Pope has entertained evolution as being true. I do not wish to debate
evolution in this post, you can search my blog and see my position that shows
the unknown variables and what COULD be true in relationship to scripture. No
today I want to look at science’s attacks on the Bible and religion.

First, we are fighting a propaganda war plain and simple.
One needs to really understand the 7 most common techniques in propaganda
before entering this fray because they are used to shut your opinion down. The
largest one used is TRANSFER, which in propaganda is transferring a using a feeling
to transfer that to a product so you think of that feeling when thinking of
that product. In science the propaganda technique of TRANSFER is used to
transfer any questions or objections to evolution or the creation of the
universe to the stereotypical backwoods southern Baptist who can only quote
scripture. The character that comes to mind is the trailer park family in the
movie Paul, basically an uneducated buffoon who only believes the Bible.

Second, attacking Genesis 1 makes the rest of the Bible a
fairy-tale. If you can remove God as the creator of the universe and over all,
then He is nothing more than an imaginary figure to explain the unexplained.
The Pope has indirectly said that nature is over God and therefore God is no
longer supernatural. Do you see the reason Satan needs to do this. If we will
not direct our worship to him, then his goal is remove it from God. If God is
not the creator of the universe, then God cannot absolve you of your
transgressions. If Jesus is God and God is not supreme, then science has done
the devils deeds.

Third, science has the answers for everything to remove or
redirect away from God. Take abiogenesis or the spontaneous creation of life.
For evolution to be true without God, life must have happened spontaneously
without any creator. It had to just happen. Nature today shows no effect
happens without a cause. So although this points to God it’s dismissed and when
you get right down and press this issue that POINTS TO GOD. It’s dismissed as
not part of evolution and the argument shows ignorance of science.

Forth, watch Bill Nye the Science Guy and his attacks on
religion. Or Jerry Coyne and his discussions on evolution. Both spend a large
portion attacking those who believe in a creator without discussing their
findings supporting evolution. They go so far as to say science will not
advance with religion’s backwards mindset and only need to point to “flat
earthers” for support. Dr. Walter Veith, who unlike Bill Nye is a doctor in
biology where Bill Nye is an engineer, like me, and is accepted since he walks
the line.

Finally, science will dismiss logical questions even from
scientists because they relate to God. I have been directly attacked as not
being a scientist and therefore cannot ask such questions. When I do force the
issue I am given elementary websites that give an overview without meat that I
am asking for. Case in point is my questions on radiometric dating, I believe
that one could plot the data on a graph without an exponential component to
show the earths age to be less than what is purposed by science. I am poo-poo’ed
and never given a site with data or equations, just one explaining how dating is
done.

Science must remove God from our equations in order to
win Satan’s agenda. To think that a theist cannot push our understanding on
science is ignorant and narrow minded. Science is great when used to progress
our understanding of nature but is dangerous when used to push away our faith
in God.

Before I go away again … don’t get me wrong I dig science and honest discoveries it makes. I just don’t like asking questions that to me are logical and getting slammed like I am some kind of moron. That smells agenda to me!!

Fun And God

I am thinking of Colossians 3:17 today because I am feeling
a bit guilty:

 And
whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God and the Father by him.

My dream was to own a bunch of land and be able to ride my
motorcycle out the front door. The land part happened earlier this year and the
motorcycle happened this week. I got my hands on a new KTM 150 SX for fun. I feel
guilty because its and extravagant expense that was for me. So I had to search
into scripture to find support for having some fun.

God does not want us to be unhappy and living poor all the
time He wants us in charge of the resources He gives us but not slaves. That is
why it’s clear that money is not the root of all evil but the “love of” money.
If I start to focus more on the KTM than I do God that is when the problems
arise.

I rode up to the top of our mountain yesterday and looked
over the mountain ranges around us. Breathtaking! And all may never had
happened if I would have remained dead!! So I can still thank God for the
ability to enjoy life!

I believe God wants us to enjoy life, enjoy hobbies and have
fun in the world he created. When you step back it’s wonderful!! They key is
don’t make the fun your idol!! Focus on living the dream, but also living for
God.

So have fun just don’t make it your idol!

Are We Wasting Our Lives Following Jesus?

Atheists these days are becoming more brutal in the attacks
against God and His followers. Now the argument has changed from Jesus isn’t
who He said He was to He never existed and the Bible is a story book.
Ironically, they lambaste us to the point of saying we are limiting science and
progress because we follow a book written in sand script. So occasionally I
wonder what if we are wrong and they are right, what then?

First thing wasted is the time we spent following Jesus and
learning His teachings. Yea, nothing He has to say is worth anything, NOT. If
you never believed in Jesus, yet followed His teachings the world would be a
better place. People who says the Bible needs a refresh are the same people
that say the constitution needs a refresh! In my opinion they have never read
either!!

Second this wasted is our character, we say we follow this
loving and generous guy but do not do as he says. This is true, but it’s from
mixed signals in the church and world and the fact we are not perfect. So we
must go as we learn and apply. It’s about growing up in Jesus! How many
children do you know that have done things perfect right out of the womb? I
rest my case.

Third wasted thing is often money. Look at the rich and
powerful churches, where the preacher is taking lavish vacations with money
meant for the poor. Sure this happens and is sad, but is not the norm. We were
part of a “mega-church” and got to see the inside. We got to see the compassion
and generosity that can be done on a large scale with those types of resources.
I also saw them not get much recognition, which is not the point. Sure the
majority of the criticism is on the minority of the churches, we need to
understand that often big money corrupts, showing the love of money being evil.

So here we are wasting our time, being hypocrites and
blowing our money following a children’s story that got out of control. What
harm is there to those who think we are nuts? NONE!! So what’s the beef? Do
somehow you feel threatened by our love? By our charity? By our mistakes?  Or do you deep down inside know God is real
and are mad that this world is so unfair?

So when I die … again … and find out nothing is on the
other end, oh well I would still do what is right. At the same time I don’t
want to be wrong and find out this is all real!! This choice is yours, follow
Jesus with all your heart and make this world a better place or live for
yourself and hope this is all a story.

I approach this article from a different slant, I am an
engineer with a bunch of science training, but not a “scientist” which in this
circle almost immediately negates my comments. Second, I am a theist and
believe Genesis 1:1 when it says God spoke the universe into existence:

 In the beginning God
created the heaven and the earth.

I look at God as a conscious energy that like energy always
was and will be. So with that lets look at each one and their arguments. Myth
1: 
Evolution is just a theory – While the lay person will argue this, science’s definition of theory
is more that they are facts until proven wrong. A theory can be proven wrong
and has over time, a simple Google search will reveal a few theories that have
been rejected. When the lay person hears the word “fact” they assume scientific
law and their definition of “theory” is actually a scientific hypothesis. So
this is very true we are talking different languages.

While I agree that
evolution is the most logical scientific theory that explains the origin of
life, I have problems with it that can be explored on this blog so I will not
reiterate the whys here, but I will say that although the article says macro
and micro evolution are the same, one can be considered almost a scientific law
while the other is still more in a hypothesis state. Again you need to read my other
blog post on this subject since they are long to explain my why’s right now.

Myth 2: We evolved from monkeys/apes– This I agree with also, the idea without
God is the only explanation on how we got here. Also, we cannot dismiss God as
an agent but must realize that God being supernatural is not testable by
science which is a study of the natural. Am I saying definitively man can from
dust and was spoke into existence over evolving from a common ancestor of apes?
No, but saying it is possible and science seems to be proving the oldest human
bones seem to originate from the middle east near where there could have been a
garden.

Myth 3: Evolution conflicts with the second
law of thermodynamics
– I have no argument
with this, they make the point well. Myth 4: We haven’t
found any “missing links”

This is also true, when assuming God is not in the equation. At the same time
most “transitional” species are really the same species which has adapted to
their environment. The only specific trans-species mutation mentioned are ArchaeopteryxConfuciusornis, and Jeholornis and while it’s a
great argument we can also point to say Draco Volans which has vestigial wings
and cold have been the evolutionary path versus birds.

My point on myth 4 is often it
takes a vivid imagination to create the creatures that appear to be
transitional or missing links.

Myth 5: Evolution isn’t science because it
hasn’t been observed/repeated
– This
is truly a myth since in observable history we have seen species adapt and
evolve to the environment. They have adapted in may instance to create new
species. Again these major transitions have not been observed in nature and you
will need to review my older blogs for details, but one needs only look to
fossil record to see transitional species outside genus has not been seen other
than assumed aves evolution.

Myth 6: Individuals evolve – This is true to a point, but is a silly
myth since it’s rarely used to debate evolution in the circles I have observed.
Myth 7: Evolution has a direction or goal – While I agree
with this to a point I have been sucked into the “conspiracy theory” world not
from the internet but actually dealing with people who have been programmed
through project Bluebird using MK Ultra techniques. So when it’s known Darwin
has Masonic roots, I question the bias of his theories which also assume myth 6
is true.

Myth 8: Some systems are too complex to
evolve
– Darwin even said in On
the Origin of Species that the eye provides a difficult dilemma for the theory.
No one can really explain how it evolved. Also, one can look at many species,
like the woodpecker, to see evolution would destroy the final product unless it
just happened. Again, this is long but can be explored in my blogs about this
subject.  Myth 9: Evolution
describes the formation of the universe/the first cell
– This is true also,
at the same time evolutionists ignore this since it points directly to God.
Nature shows spontaneous generation as improbable since nothing observed has
been spontaneous, it all has required an agent “speaking” it into existence.
Evolution is a design feature to help this world continue. God knew this was
not a stable system he made and species needed to adapt. Also, I am not
dismissing that God said start and it was from a single cell the he spoke this.
In the end the argument is not how we came to be, but is God real.

Myth 10: Evolution is faith based – Again their comments are true, without an outside
agent of God this is the ONLY logical and proven explanation of how we got
here. Again micro vs macro is the key and the big picture may change in the
long run. Just read Walter Veith’s stuff since he IS a PHD biologist who is a
creationist to understand the possibility of God is there for all to see.

The problem I have with
this debate is the rhetoric where someone who may logically disagree gets
grouped in with those who are unscientific Bible thumpers. That is a classic
propaganda technique call transfer where my arguments are dismissed as
backwoods and hick-ish. The transfer is to a stereotype of a loon and not a
person with true scientific questions, remember as an engineer I must make what
science “theorizes” work in the real world.

Water, Water Everywhere and Not A Drop to Drink

As you may or may not know we moved to the middle of nowhere
and thus have traded traffic and city problems for other problems. The most
recent is water or the lack thereof. Southern Oregon is in a severe drought
where not only our “seasonal” creek went dry but the main one dried up. Our
well is almost toxic so we gather runoff from the creek, but with no runoff we
have gone dry a few time.

I have discovered you can dig down a foot or so and get
water from the seasonal creek, but it started to dry up. Twice this year we had
our pump run dry and needed to do a panic fix. But just when things looked
their bleakest, Numbers 20:11 happened:

And Moses lifted up his hand, and
with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and
the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

We got a few days of showers and that got the creek running
again and our “seasonal” creek’s holes to the level we can capture water and we
are filling up the tanks again. We were never in dire straits since we can get
water delivered or could get it for free from the city, just need to transport
it. But I found it amazing that when we went dry the first time we had the rock
hit and things were flowing again.

God is GOOD!!

At the same time I hope that we don’t mess up striking the
rock like in this instance where Moses did it out of anger without consulting
God. It blew his entry into the Promised Land.

The second time the tanks went dry was my mess-up and it was
caught before it became a problem like the first time! We pray this weather continues
into the fall so we don’t run out again. A big byproduct of this is I am making
holes for water and getting to mine for gold at the same time so maybe under
the next rock I will find the big score the early prospectors missed.

Here’s A Bit Of A Rattlesnake

I have recently been in wild debates on taxes, the
government and churches roles in society. The discussion eventually ends up
being one of compassion and what would Jesus do. The supporters of larger
government help says they are doing what the churches will not. The church
should handle the needy, but they tend to test and teach which many don’t want.
The other day Pastor Brian at our new church made me rethink this altogether. Matthew
26:11
tells us no one, be it an individual, church or government, can eliminate
poverty:

 For ye have
the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

Now Pastor Brian’s sermon was on Matthew 21:31-46 on the
parable of the sheep and goats. The sheep are allowed into heaven and the goats
are not. One group feed the hungry and clothed the poor while the other did
not. Both groups mentioned that they never saw Jesus needing help, but one
group was serving the needy while the other dismissed them.

The first revelation I got from this was the church and
state debate on who can handle the poor. The key I saw was it was neither party’s
responsibility, but rather our own personal responsibility! We go to church and
feel good about helping the poor since the church does or write our tax check
knowing we help the poor, while stepping away from the beggar in the street
(refer to Luke:25-37 for the parable of the Samaritan).

We need to stop expecting others to do the “dirty work” and
roll up our sleeves and help those around us. Not by giving to a ministry for
the needy, but by helping the needy. Believe me it is not clean and can get
ugly at times, but does it matter if it is the deciding factor into the
kingdom?

I have never been a once saved always saved doctrinal kind
of guy, so when I see people who believe in Jesus get turned away from heaven I
want to see why. Matthew 7:21 is one of those verses that make me wonder:

 Not every
one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but
he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Will I be calling “Lord, Lord” and not be let in? Will I be
a goat and not a sheep? Did I do for others what I would do for Jesus?
Questions abound, but the one clear thing is paying taxes or giving to my
church does not absolve my responsibility in helping those in need … according
to scripture!! So this may be a rattlesnake that gets you hopping

Are You Salt, Light and Coffee

Recently on Facebook a story was floated about a wife who
was complaining to her grandmother about her cheating husband. She did an
illustration and had her bring three pots to a boil, the first one she put
carrots, the second one eggs and the third coffee. After 20 minutes she talked
about each one and how the hot water was adversity in our life. The carrot went
in hard, but under the “heat” went soft and lost their strength. Or an egg
which had a malleable heart but under the “heat” became hard. Or the coffee
bean which actually changed the water in was in when the “heat” was on. Do you
make the situation around you better or worse?

That is coffee and what Jesus was talking about in Matthew
5:13-16
when we are to live in His way:

 

13 Ye are
the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it
be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be
trodden under foot of men. 14 Ye are the light of the
world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither
do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it
giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father which is in heaven.

God does not ask us to shine when all is shining around us,
He is not asking us to flavor a tender and juicy meal. No Jesus is asking us to
shine in the darkness and flavor bland food. See if we praise God when things
are going great, that is easy. When the meal can stand on its own without extra
seasoning or when it is sunny outside God can be praised but He is experienced
and glorified in tough times.

When you are down and out to the world yet still live in the
joy and hope Jesus gives us, THAT is what Jesus was talking about. God never “promised
us a rose garden” here on earth. Think about all the great stories in the Bible
and how the “hero” rose against adversity to shine God’s glory for all to see.
If God took someone who had it easy people could claim the person was the “hero”
and not God.

No God used an exiled murderer to lead the people from
Egypt, not a prince. So be a coffee bean and when the water around you starts
to boil, CHANGE THE WATER and not your love for Jesus!!

What Is Truth?

Today we live in a world that is dominated primarily by
relativism and not truth. Take Evolution, truth to a biologist is all life on
this planet has a common origin and happened naturally. To a theist, God spoke
and created the universe and all that is in it. Each believes their “truth” is
fact and the other person is bonkers. Both have a relative view based on if
there is or is not a creator. Science will argue they have facts to support
their view of the truth and that is hard to argue, but you get a good theist
like Dr. Walter Veith and he will poke holes in their facts and make one doubt
science.

Relativism is also seen in the battle for legalization of marijuana.
One side you can see the effects of abuse and on the other you see the many
health benefits. Both sides have a relative view point based on what they see
as true. Take cultures that practiced cannibalism and headhunting, to that
culture this was not wrong. It was ok to have your neighbor FOR dinner!!

Now the Bible is rather simple when it comes to truth and
stated in John 14:6 where Jesus states:

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way,
the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus IS the truth, period. We look to Jesus for the final
answer and cannot drift from it!

Now relativism has creeped into the churches, take the Southern
Baptist who many cry that drinking is a sin. To them it is and nothing will
change that. To the Wesleyans it’s ok to drink, but not get drunk. Granted most
in leadership do not drink, they do not force that on the congregation. We can
dig into each doctrine and find scriptural support for each view. Paul in 1
Corinthians 8:13
is the reason many say do not drink since often the church has
alcoholics who need not stumble. On the other hand Jesus often drank wine with
the disciple and his first miracle was changing water to wine.

So even when dealing with Jesus we often get into
relativism. So what IS truth, read the Bible, pray and find out!!

A “Picker”

My latest hobby is gold prospecting, since you have to find
it to mine it!! Don’t get me wrong, I have found a little bit with the majority
being 2 “pickers” or gold pieces that are big enough to grab with your fingers.
Now the local miners say that is a big deal since many go years without finding
something like that, but the hole I have found those two have been unproductive
other than those two.

As I have dug through almost a half-ton of dirt most of my
pans come up empty in the end, no “color”, but when I do find “color” I get
real excited that maybe I have finally hit the “pay streak” only to have the
next pans not “pan out”. You see how many common terms used in our language
come from gold mining!

I digress and have talked about this subject before when it
comes to using a sluice box, but how do you read the Bible? Do you dig through
mountains of reading to find that one “nugget” of scripture? Like John 3:16
which offers mankind salvation through Jesus! Or maybe Genesis 1:1 to prove
that God is above all! Or John 14:12 which shows the power of believing!

The key that I want to reiterate again is we need to stop
looking for nuggets in the word and realize it’s the “mother load”!! Just open
from Genesis 1:1 and read to Revelations 21:21 to discover the glory in each
word printed. And don’t worry so much as to the revision as much as to the
overall view. Find something you are comfortable reading and read, you will be
blessed beyond your dreams!! You will see how often “pickers” are used for
advancing earthly agendas when used out of context.

So read, verify, read more, and pray a bunch. It’s a
simple formula!

Have You Been Chosen?

Matthew 22:14 begs to asks this important question:

For many are called, but few are
chosen.

This scripture is the end of the parable of the King’s
Wedding Banquet from Matthew 22:1 – 14. When you read the story it talks about
the invited guest who all had “better” things to do and did not come. The king
then goes and invites everyone. This is easy to see that the Chosen People were
the original guests who rejected God and did as they pleased. Jesus’ coming
allowed salvation not only to the original chosen, but to all.

The invite is there for ALL!!

As you dig into the story it ends with the king removing one
guest who was not prepared for the wedding. He was not in the proper dress and
therefore did not take the invite serous and this becomes my personal concern!!

The “doctrine” in most churches today is we need to follow
the ABC’s; Accept Jesus as Lord of our life, Believe Jesus is who he said he is
and Confess our sins. But this story shows there may be more, we need to
prepare for the feast. This parable shows a man who accepted the invitation yet
was not allowed to the party. So what did he do wrong?

The only thing we see is he did not wear the right clothes.
Now does that mean only need to wear the right thing, the John 3:16 tee-shirt
or a suit and tie? Or is it more? Is our “resurrection” body going to be our
meat suit or our spirit? If it’s the meat suit then the cloths matter, but if
it’s the spirit then we need to prepare the “inside” AKA the mind or what
people cannot see.

I believe that is the key and since the final commandment is
about the mental aspect to our walk with God. Sure we can live the first 9
without a problem but Jesus highlights the last one most often. The most
obvious is lusting is equal to adultery, it’s not that you are breaking
adultery but the coveting aspect. Now our dress may show to the world we are
following 1-9, but you cannot hide the “mental attitude sins” from God!

So what are you wearing to the banquet?

My Sin Is Ok With God

We have recently looked at 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 which says:

Know ye
not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived:
neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers
of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the
kingdom of God.

If you look at this we find that most of us will “inherit
the kingdom of God” for one reason or another. We need to rest on grace that we
are forgiven, but should not continue in the sin. That is the point which seems
to be missed by many. We become aware of our sin, right and wrong, yet we still
follow wrong our security in heaven is at question.

I want to explore Romans 1:26-28 with this in mind:

And even as they did not like to
retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do
those things which are not convenient;

In context this verse is talking about homosexuality and the
problems within the church. But I feel it can be applied to all sin, not
isolated to one. The basic meaning here is God finally says enough and lets
their minds go towards the sin. Notice how the further we get from God the more
sin becomes explained away and normal. This is what Paul meant here, where what
is improper is now considered normal.

I have argued homosexuality back and forth on both sides.
This is not JUST to focus on that, but to look at all sin. When the sin is
excused and explained away is when things go south for mankind. That is what
has been happening since Kinsey explaining sexual decency as normal in 1948. It
has been going on since man became aware of sin, but this is what I believe to
be the modern day “line of demarcation” in our modern deparivity.

What is the SOLUTION? Jesus!! He died not so we could
sin, but so we could become NEW CREATIONS in Him and sin no more. Our past is
behind and forgiven, now we must live a life pleasing to God. That means if you
are stuck in habitual sin, STOP!! Get away from the mindset that it’s ok to do
this or that because I was made that way. We were ALL made to sin, that is the struggle
for everyone of us.

Can We Change Others?

We often fall into a trap with pray and using other methods
that we can change people. Guess what, we can’t! No matter how much we pray, no
matter how much we imagine that person being perfect, no matter what we say,
that person will not change unless they desire to. This is debatable, but the
first commandment is FREEDOM (not love thy God) and with it freewill. If we
believe we can pray someone into not drinking we are fooling ourselves, unless
that person uses freewill to stop.

Now what we can do is pray for help for ourselves!

I noticed in The Secret they kind of addressed this by
saying the incidences where you did not like seemed to avoid you. They did not
say the co-workers changed but rather left. They did not say the husband was
not mad, but you were not around when he was pissed. In a way they said the
same thing, we cannot control people around us.

The key with scripture and The Secret is we change, not
others. We can pray God will help change a person but without their willing
participation that will never happen. The one thing we can pray for is our
understanding and proper response to a situation. Grace is easy when things are
calm, but not so easy when all hell is breaking lose.

When you are staring at someone doing injury and harm to
another you love, grace goes out the window and what you learned in
self-defense classes kicks in. I have a lot to learn in controlling my temper,
but at the same time there is only so much one can take. So what changes here?
What can I do? Do I change the person making me mad or myself?

No matter how much I want change it’s not going to happen
outside of me. In writing this I blew up this morning. I watched a child paying
with a stick purposefully damage something, I lost my temper. Right now I am on
edge and no matter how much I yell at this party or that the only person I can
control is me!!

God is Supernatural or Above Nature and IS The Creator of the Universe, He IS NOT The Universe!

In its essence The Secret is Pantheism or belief that the
universe and nature is the same as divinity. If you watch The Secret closely,
they will address God as being nature and use scripture to make you think it is
ok. They tend to tie God and Jesus into nature saying they are the universe. This
is the danger removing our focus from God and pointing it towards stuff or new
idols.

Once things tend to flow your direction then the
non-spiritual aspects of the Law of Attraction takes control. We forget that
God is NOT nature or the universe but rather above nature. God created these
natural laws and they are here for doing good. One could argue that natures
laws have always been in place and this may be a true statement, like God
gravity just is, like the Law of Attraction.

We as created beings in God’s image can tap into this law,
like gravity. As they point out in The Secret, you may not believe in The Law
of Gravity, but you jump off a building and splat. The same goes with
attraction, we tend to attract what we focus on. I look at the period between
2001 and 2008, my focus was on debt and I got debt. Once I changed my focus to
abundance, it didn’t change over night, but things started to change.

We no longer looked a giving from what was left, but giving
became first. We still we conscious of debt but removed it and made a plan to
pay it off and stuck to it. Seven years later we are living the life we wanted
and this is good. The key is remaining in focus with God and keeping my nose in
the Bible.

When science challenges God, like The Secret does in a
way remember in both cases what is going on. Science is the study of nature,
God being supernatural is above nature and therefore has evidence in nature but
cannot be proven by the study of nature. At the same The Secret makes God equal
to the universe and not the creator of the universe. It’s a subtle difference,
but is critical in following God. As I noted before to get the full “secret”
you need to explore more and see how giving is just as important as receiving!
This is where The Secret fails and where the Bible fills in the holes.

Awake oh Sleeper

1 Timothy 6:10 is the most often quoted against wealth:

 For the
love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they
have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

People twist this to say “money is the root of all evil” and
tend to leave off the “love of” part. Money is just money, nothing more. It
cannot rise up and kill people, it cannot lie to people, it cannot commit
adultery. Money just is and therefore cannot be the “root” of anything, but the
love of something other than God can be.

I have blogged about this a bunch but in context of my
recent study of “The Secret” I wanted to look at “love of money” a bit in that
context. With God, Jesus and The Secret the highest power emotion is love and
we can go throughout all to find examples, the key difference between love in
the Bible and in The Secret is the focus. The Bible is clear to love God first
then others, nothing more. The Secret on the other hand is love what you desire
and make that the focus.

This is why “the love of money is the root of all evil”
because it focuses on self-gratification and not God or others. When we focus
on money or any other idol outside God we tend to forget God and this is why
The Secret is so dangerous. Two commandments it violates is loving God and
coveting when the focus is away from God.

While the Law of Attraction may be in effect no matter what,
we need to understand it is to be used to glorify God and not self. If we do
attract wealth and power, it is to be used to love God and others else we could
get swept up in a misguided adventure.

Guess what I am trying to process is the fine line between
loving money and wanting money to glorify God. Both can be had with The Secret
and using the Law of Attraction, the difference is YOUR focus. I know this is
difficult to process since we can see the schism in the church with prosperity
preaching. The focus becomes things and not God. So when exploring the Law of
Attraction keep rooted in scripture because the dangers are real with the enemy
and temptations. Don’t get lazy! Awake oh sleeper!!

The Secret Is NOT Being Consumed With Wealth

Matthew 16:26 is a warning from Jesus about focusing on
money which is the core to The Secret’s teachings:

For what is a man profited, if he
shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in
exchange for his soul?

The biggest problem with learning the Law of Attraction is
one becomes very materialistic. They twist Jesus’ teachings to show He teaches
the Law of Attraction to better one’s self to make it seem like materialism is
ok. The problem is as you become well off, we all tend to drift from God. This
is why Jesus spends so much time pointing to rich and talking about money.

If you focus becomes all about the GOLD and not about helping
others, the Law of Attraction will continue to work, but we will become
separated from God. You look at the Ten Commandments and they tend to focus on
more mental things that separate us from God. In a way all tend to point to the
last commandment of “thou shalt not covet”. Most other commandments start with
that and then proceed to the act.

So if you explore and try to control your thoughts to create
your existence, make sure you remain focused on God first and HIS will, that
way you will understand more how The Secret works. You will understand why some
things happen quickly and others take time, sometimes a very long time. You
will see how God works in our lives and how we need to remain in His will.

The most important thing to remember is not to get lost in
manifesting wealth and treasures. One can easily do that and lose all focus on
life, I think of 2007/8 when the economy took a dump. 12 Stone was growing and
doing things that most churches would think was nuts. I remember one service
they gave everyone $100 to use in the community. They did not take note of
everyone grabbing the money, they literally put it all on the altar and you
would come and grab it.

They did this in faith and huge things happened in the
church, they grew in an economic slowdown. They used the “Law of Attraction”
that Jesus taught, not what has been perverted by the occult. 12 Stone’s focus
was not to teach people to get money from the church but rather to use that
money in the community for GOOD. They taught us that once you remove the focus
on just money, but rather doing God’s will with the money you attract more.

That was one part that was hidden in the law, those who give
on faith always seem to have enough. They always seem to have more than enough
to give. Personally that is when our largest growth in wealth happened, when we
stopped focusing on saving for the crash, but giving for the kingdom. I can honestly
say giving someone randomly $100 is FUN!! It’s worth every penny to see the joy
on their face, we just need to ensure they understand that joy is noted as
spreading of God’s love.

The Occult Undertones In The Secret

The Secret often is looked at in a different light as from
demons and the occult. It’s difficult to find scriptural support here but we
can look at the teachings and how they twist the Bible. They look at Matthew
21:22
and twist the context:

If you believe, you will receive
whatever you ask for in prayer.”

This ends the story of the Fig Tree that Jesus curses, in
context you need to understand that God’s will must be in check. This becomes a
deception into thinking that we are gods and can create our own reality. In a
way this is true, but in a way it is not.

I will explore the dangers of thinking we are gods later,
but want to dive more into the occult aspects. The simple acts of the Law of
Attraction is ask, believe and receive and is supported by this scripture. But
it removes God from the equation and puts yourself into the lead.

Notice the lie and what is being taught? Think of Adam and
Eve and the lie they were told. See we can be like God since we were created in
HIS image, but that does not mean explore the selfish side of the table. God’s
will is to have us focused on Him and not our own selfish desires. The reason
the fruit was a sin is their eyes became open to the power of God and how they
could tap into it for their own glory.

The other more deceptive part of this teaching was in the opening
of The Secret and the Emerald Tablet. The writing on the tablet says “As above,
so below. As within, so without.” If you study the occult this is tied often
with Baphomet or the goat man Satan is often depicted as. This is not mentioned
in the video, but later in the director’s comments portion of the DVD. While it’s
passed off as nothing, it is very demonic in origins.

The actual Newton translation of this is “That which is
below is like that which is above & that which is above is like that which
is below to do the miracles of one only thing.” Basically saying God and Satan
are the same. See the danger? This is what Satan wants is the connection
between the him and God blurred so they are the same. So be CAREFUL when
explore this or avoid it since these warnings have been placed in the Bible for
a reason. Man can easily get lost in the “flesh” and lose focus on what is good
and right.

So while I like The Secret and its overall message, one must
understand the dangerous undertones. The Law of Attraction is one of nature’s
laws and is in effect no matter what we think about it. The key is use it for
God’s will and not try to become like God with this. Not become a “little g god”
but rather understand that we can use it for God’s glory as much as we can our
own. That aspect we will explore soon also!!

Time Won’t Give Me Time

I will be focusing on The Secret a bit longer, not sure if
it’s because of danger or the possibilities it presents. I have lived a life
that in some ways has become a manifestation of exactly what we wanted, for the
most part. To think it was all me is very short sighted, and that is the danger
of The Secret.

Today I want to focus on time and how both teach us to
manage it. With God Mark 1:35 tells us how we need to start our day:

And in the morning, rising up a
great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and
there prayed.

I read this and immediately think of the “prayer closet”
since that has become the solitary place in most homes. Much of my praying has
become slowed since although we have a large home, it’s a very open plan with
no real solitary place. So often times I need to go into the mountains to
commune with God in nature. This is a component of every healthy relationship
with God, spending time with Him.

I use to read a section and dive into what that meant to me
at the time, but recently I have been using Google to find scripture support on
what I am thinking about these days. I talk about this because God and The
Secret have been known to operate on their own time. Both require time with
God, although one calls God “the universe” and more getting in touch with one’s
feelings.

I think the key that I have learned is to give everything
time. In The Secret one of the interviewees’ talks about his “dream board”
where he puts his dreams on the board and focuses on them each morning. When moving
his son asked about the box they were in and as he is showing him and
explaining he sees the home he dreamed about 5 years earlier is the home he
moved into, not like the home but the exact one.

So the key here is time as with God, often we need to wait
before our prayers our answered as difficult as that may seem in the “now”. We
live in a time where if we want something it usually arrives fast, we can go on
line and get it next day for 0 percent for 6 months. We can get a fair dinner
on the way home, almost instantly. We can get information on anything, almost
anywhere on our phones. The world and life are on a different time than when
Jesus walked the earth.

Think about this really, from the woods in southern Oregon I
can travel to Israel and walk where Jesus walked in less than day (24 hours).
So the speed of life is expected to keep pace. Guess what God has His time as
The Secret has its own. The problem with both today is we expect a McDonald’s
result from God or the universe and that is not the way things work. Sometimes
things do, while other times they do not. Many times your prayers are answered
quickly and many times it takes time, like years or decades.

The key is both require focus on God and never to give up.
We find often our prayers or desires change over time and become focuses on something
more in line with what we really want and need. Praying for an elephant as a
child is not realistic since based on the amount of poo a horse produces I can’t
imagine maintaining an elephant. So don’t think God is ignoring you or The
Secret doesn’t work, often we give up on God before things really start to
happen. A big lesson we can learn from The Secret is giving God time, so we can
understand why. Often we need training before we can set the world on fire
(figuratively of course) and that takes time.

Love God FIRST

The Secret kinda got things right with their focus on love.
If you notice their diagram of feelings, love was at the top of the list. They
did not mention Matthew 22:37 – 40 which Jesus talks about love:

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This
is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is
like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On
these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The Secret tries to do what Satan tried in the garden and
try to make us think we are God or at least have the power of God. When The
Secret references God they are referencing “the universe” and how some people
call that God, but do not acknowledge a conscious energy that is above all. It
explains God as a force you can manipulate with your mind and nothing more.

Now through the video they quote scripture and reference
that Jesus was teaching “The Secret”. In the “directors comments” feature on
the DVD you get some insight into the “feeling” diagram and they mention that
number 1 is love because it is the most powerful and attractive feeling in the
universe. The do not mention the referenced scripture exactly but imply it.

I believe the reason they imply the scripture and not
actually use it is that loving God comes first and for them to say that would
acknowledge that the “universe” was controlled by something other than energy.
Loving God would imply that you would love the “universe” to get more “universe”.

Honestly, the Law of Attraction works here as well, if we
love God with all our hearts God will be with us. We will attract God and
nothing wrong with that!!

Now was this what the tree of knowledge opened the eyes of
Adam and Eve? Occult and Satanists will say so and that God trapped Adam and
Eve in the garden before their eyes were open and they were released. In their
mind Satan gave them freedom. In reality we know this to be false since
everything Satan may at first seem ok, but ends up turning out awful.

James Ray, one of the people who spoke and helped write The
Secret in 2009 had many people die in one of his “sweat huts” in Sedona, AZ. I
point to this since he was one of the main people in the DVD to make the
connection between energy and God, how a scientist would describe energy the
same way a theologian would describe God. My point here is not to debunk the
secret but to show its roots are not without flaw, unlike God.

Test the secret and you will eventually see it works, but
without acknowledging God and love being the key to everything one drifts and
may be happy for some time, but never find true peace. That is why the rich
will keep attracting more wealth as they love money, but will miss out on the
salvation through Jesus!

Now I’m A Believer

I will go back again to John 14:12 and look at another
aspect:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He
that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works
than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

The key here is BELIEVING in Jesus and not just
acknowledging his existence. Sure even the demon’s believe, but cannot do. The
focus is believing in who Jesus said He was and not just believing that He was
a man. Yet today you look at The Zeitgeist movement and they are trying after
2000 years to erase the name of Jesus from our history, not only to negate His
story but saying it ties into pagan traditions. So this is a key point that you
must believe.

Now compare this to The Secret and you will see something
similar, that you must believe in the Law of Attraction of you cannot get it to
work.  The idea is you try it and if it
doesn’t work, what almost happens reverses since you stopped believing. It’s
the wish for something and it will happen, sorta … since you need to feel like
you have it already because wishing you have something will keep you wishing
for that. See how one can travel down a rabbit trail trying to get your
desires.

The same thing can be said about doing “greater works” than
Jesus. It was easy for Paul and the disciples since they saw Jesus do these
miracles. When they were told you can do greater, they knew it could be done.
They could believe since they had experienced the miracles first-hand. Today we
are so many generations removed from these works that often no one has seen a
true healing or a miracle. Answered prayers become a hit or miss experience,
letting people believe more in chance than in a loving God listening to our
desires.

In both The Secret and the prosperity preaching, lack of
belief is why things do not work out as you desire. In reality they are
partially right, but at the same time they are missing the mark. The key is you
have to understand your desires have to start lining up with God’s in order to
get it. Then often your desires are met be them grand or simple.

I can say we landed in our dream home after almost 30 years
of desire and prayers. It’s not perfect, but it’s awesome! And that is a key,
you focus on the flaws in this world and they invade your reality more and
more. You focus on the awesomeness and guess what, the bad still comes around
but it is no big deal when you are in the arms of your Father!

So yes “the secret” to both is believing, but you
believe in God and greater things are in store!

Greater Things By Yourself or With God?

I have touched on John 14:12 before but let’s look at it in
the “light” of The Secret:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He
that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works
than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

This is one of those verses that often gets people’s faith
since Jesus walked on water, healed the sick, made the lame walk and raised the
dead. In the movie, The Secret, they told the story of The Miracle Man who was
in a plane accident as was not expected to live much less walk ever again. He
was lost in his thoughts and decided he would walk out of the hospital by
Christmas. His only way to communicate was blinking and “declared” this to the
staff. He defied everyone and walked out on Christmas.

Now this was put into the light of one’s self willing their
body using the “universe” to help them. I am also considered a Miracle Man
because on May 17, 2014 I dropped dead. My heart stopped and I hit the floor.
It took 5 minutes before CPR was started and then another 45 minutes before
they got a pulse back. I was put into a coma to allow my “organs” to recover
but was told “if” I came to I would be a vegetable. I could do nothing with my
brain during this time since I was out, yet I was covered in prayer and when
Amiee and Patty were fervently praying together in my room I started to come
to. Well the nurse told them to stop praying and started to fill me up with
more drugs to keep me in a coma. Didn’t matter, and hour later I was alert,
alive and as normal as I could be.

Was it those ladies using the power of prayer or was it them
twisting the universe? This is where the lines of reality get fuzzy, but I can
say that I was prayed over and defied the odds shortly thereafter. I would say
THEY did these and “greater works” on me.

Now I feel much of what has happened to the miracle and
healing ministries today is they have either focused on the show for money or
are considered wack-a-do by the science community. How many times do we pray
for the doctors hand in healing vs a miraculous healing that only could be of
God? Honestly, we can do greater things we just need to believe and that is “The
Secret”!

Those who pray without results or try to follow the Law of
Attraction from The Secret may be close to a breakthrough before they give up. You
quickly lose faith on anything working just before something big comes along. The
saying from The Secret is “your wish is my command” and when you turn negative,
that wins.

I think the big difference between the two is the focus. One
focuses on self while the other focuses on God. We can change OUR surroundings but
cannot heal others without that special sauce call God. I think the idea we are
energy that is directly in contact with the universe is true, but there is a
higher level energy that IS God. That Is the key we can only effect little
things which may seem large, but God is in control of all and that is missing
from The Secret totally.

The video acknowledges God in a way, but ties it into “the
universe” and makes God seem to be more a genie that one can control by their
feelings. They do not mention any other attributes about God. As much as it’s
fun to see how things line up when you believe they will. One needs to
acknowledge the source and being God and not YOU. I remember one of the
teachers was in the news a few years ago, having had people die doing one of
his exercises. That shows how we cannot control everything, if you do it don’t
forget God and give thanks to him. Also, do it like Amiee and Patty for others
more than self!!

The True Secret To The Abundant Life

John 10:10 *** is often misused by PGPs (Prosperity Gospel Preachers):

The thief cometh not, but for to
steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and
that they might have it more abundantly.

The problem is they define abundant life as wealth and power
which is far from what Jesus was talking about here. The abundant life is MORE
than just things and comfort, it is LOVE.

Also, somehow the “abundant life” is equated with hitting
the “easy button” where everything is perfect. No we live in a flawed world, things
happen unexpected that are not what anyone would consider perfect. The “abundant
life” that Jesus talked about knows this, but knows we don’t need to focus on
the negative but rather remain grounded in Jesus.

Case in point, for a while you could see in my blog a heavy
New World Order slant. I was hot on the globalists and the Illuminati. That
just got me depressed and focused away from the “abundant life” Jesus had in
mind. Are we still spiraling down the commode? Maybe, but if we are, try to focus on
the New Jerusalem and not the tribulation we must pass through.

On a side note we are NOT going to be “raptured” up avoiding
the rough times ahead. We have explored this before and will do so later, but I
would love scriptural support if you believe it.

Anyway, the “abundant life” can be lived in a Ferrari or a
Yugo, the key is what else you are doing. Are you focused on the money and the
car, either one? In both cases you missed the mark, since rich or poor if your
idol is money

and your
focus is on money or the lack of money then you missed all Jesus said about money.

NOTE – money is not evil, but rather the love of money.

My point is the PGP’s in this world tend to remove our focus
from God and place it on their idol, money. We need to focus on more than
things, but rather love and compassion. As with giving, the focus should not be
what the PGPs want you to expect more if you give more, but rather focus on
giving what you can, if God is pleased and your attitude is solid then they
will align and you will have more.

See abundance comes from an attitude of abundance, but in
everything and not just money!!

What Are We Missing?

We have look at how Prosperity Gospel preachers have focused
on certain verses that imply God will gives us anything we desire. They link
that to things and twist it around to prey on the needy to get donations. The
point they miss is we are not just praying for wealth but joy and love. The “abundant”
life will follow but we need to focus on the “abundance” and not the problems.
Ever wonder why some seem to do well during down times, when you talk to them
they seem clueless on the problems in the world.

The Law of Attraction states you attract what you focus on.
So if you focus on your debt, you get more debt. If you focus on getting out of
debt, you still are focused on debt and get more debt. Those who seem to always
do well do so because they do not focus on the worlds ills, but the worlds
goods.

For me it started with financing the shop on credit cards, I
focused on paying them off each month and only seemed to get enough to pay off
the debt. Once I started focusing on debt and not the solution, it snowballed.
During the end of 2008 I started to shift my focus from debt to abundance.
December, 2008 I started the slow change, I got a job and Dave Ramsey’s Money
Makeover. Five years later I paid off the cards and lost my job, but remained
focused on abundance and not loss.

We sold our holdings in Georgia and started a new debt free
life in the west with family. Still no job, but we seem to keep working things
out each month. The focus remains positive. Now we are not spending wildly on
credit to maintain life thinking it’s going to get better soon, but rather
spend what we have coming in.

The key that God taught me is focus on what you want and be
receptive to those prompts he gives you. Also, do not focus on the bad! Since
we moved we no longer have any access to consistent news and this is awesome! It
keeps our focus on the abundance and not on the lack. We just need to follow
the path God lays out in front of us.

Now with this said, one thing I know is to focus on things is
not wealth, but love and God first. That is why Jesus said the two most
important commandments were love God and love your neighbors as yourself. Don’t
stop fighting to know God and reading his Word. You will see learn the HOLES in
The Secret and have a truly abundant life!

Giving And Prosperity

Often missing from Prosperity Gospel’s (PG) and other “get
rich quick” new age things like The Secret is giving. Unfortunately when it is
used, Matthew 13:8 is cited and is twisted into giving to their ministry is how
to get back a “hundredfold”:

 But other
fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some
sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

So give to my charity and get 100 fold back!! That is the
qualifier for many in the world of PG preachers. They always “qualify” that 100
fold with it may not be money, but blessings.

The Secret does mention this concept of giving in the DVD,
but you have to hunt in the bonus features to find it mentioned. It did not
make the final cut or the book, but is important either way. I like Pastor
Robert Morris’ approach to giving and God. In his books he tells stories that  he has given his home, car and estate away to
have nothing, only to get it back more.

I am not saying to give it all away, but I am saying you
need to give to receive. It’s an odd concept, but giving is so much a part of
the equation. The Secret DVD does explain this in the “Director Comments”
section that if you give the universe will align itself so you can give more.

Now I tend to believe it’s deeper than this since many give
from poverty, like the widow who gave here last mite while the rich gives from
his excess. In Luke 21:1 – 4 Jesus talks about this and uses it as an example,
unfortunately it’s often used as a way to guilt you into giving and that is
wrong also. I hear of old people giving their fortunes away because of this
verse.

What is missing is not the amounts or percentages, but the
attitude. Those who give without real expectations to get anything back in
return are the ones who “get it” and seem to always have enough. It’s not about
giving everything away to get more, but giving whenever you can. We are here to
be the light, not just the salt, and often it’s shined on other by our generosity.

I also know those who live with plenty who are still tight
with their wealth. They have more than most, yet they keep a tight grip on the
funds and still play the lottery for that big win. That is an attitude of lack
and shows little trust in God. Fagin from Oliver Twist had a saying many in
this position has, “charity’s fine, subscribe to mine!” I can think of one well
of buddy who use to try to have me give him my property, and this was constant
so it went beyond a joke stage. He thought I was nuts helping out people who needed
help and just assumed I would “help” him out also.

The new age mantra is if you don’t have enough to give, your
focus is on lack and the universe will make sure you never have enough.

So the PG preachers do have it right, I just say give on
your own. Find someone who needs a buck and give them a hundred. Find someone
who needs a jump start and give them a battery. Find someone who needs a cup of
coffee and give them a decent breakfast. And find someone who needs nothing and
give them your all. It’s not only about giving to the church so it will
prosper, but to those in need.

One still needs to tithe, since the church cannot survive
without the support of its members, but at the same time we need to do extra on
our own, if not for the community but for the fun!! It’s awesome to see the
face on someone who just gets a “buck” and finds a hundred wrapped inside!

Is It Really That Easy? YES!!

John 14:13 is another popular verse with the Prosperity
Gospel preachers:

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my
name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

If it were that simple!!

I think people don’t really understand why this is so hit
and miss for many of us when we pray. Often we use the cliché “it’s God’s will”
which often hurts after a death. How can death and illness be God’s will? We
often dismiss unanswered prayer to “God’s time. But when is “God’s time” and
why does it never seem to align with our own?

In my personal journey from debt to an abundant life was
long and difficult. But throughout it I see God’s fingerprints all over the
trip. We would be traveling along the way and hit roadblocks that seemed
insurmountable or derail our progress, when they only “nudged” us back to God’s
desired path for us. See if I had won the lottery or sold our property in 2007,
we would have sunk a ton of money in a business that was going to close anyway
and not have anything left. I can go on from jobs that were below my pay grade
yet were enough to chip away at the credit card debt and allow us to survive.

Through this we learned the hard lesson of the evils of
debt!

As the property kept getting delayed, what seemed to be a “curse”
ended up being a blessing. We always seemed to find the perfect spot only to
have it fall through because our deal in Georgia was delayed. The one thing we
discovered is that delay helped us find EXACTLY what we wanted!! God is awesome
when you step back and see the big picture.

Now what has prompted this revisit of exploring the Prosperity
Gospel is we recently watched “The Secret” again. While I dig the concept they
tend to focus too much on the stuff and not enough on the other side of the
abundant life. Also, they miss the idea we are made in the “image” of God and
therefore have those same qualities to a lesser extent. The movie focuses on
our interaction with the “universe” and “energy” while suggesting that all God
is.

If you watch it be aware of the “mystery religion” or
cultish parts of this. They try to remove God from the equation and since we
have that same “spirit” often they dismiss a higher power. This removes God
from the equation which is wrong!

At the other end of the spectrum, the “Prosperity Gospel”
preachers tie into this same abundant energy we call can tap into and forget to
close the loop with God. They make God seem more like the genie in The Secret
and forget “the rest of the story”.

In our prayer life we need to focus on abundant life,
praying for everything and not just the goodies and connect with God! Also, understand
it IS that simple, pray for things in Jesus’ name and they will be given to
you. You need to receive and understand it may not look like how you prayed.
Your desire to be rich and debt free may not include the lottery, but rather a
more difficult road. You just need to believe and wait, never give up and
remain focused on the positive.

Prosperity Gospel Revisited

The Prosperity Gospel has been a subject I harp on often,
but Matthew 6:33 keeps our focus on God:

But seek ye first the kingdom of
God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

I believe too many people fall into the rub “Buddha’s belly”
to get riches from God mentality. Sure God blesses many and He loves to see us
happy, but we must seek Him before all. I am still trying to process what has
happened to us during the past 7 years and don’t get it. In December of 2008 we
hit bottom, the business was failing, our rentals we in a shambles and we were
in over a half a million in debt. Our prayers of prosperity were simple, and we
needed a lottery win and since that was not coming our next stop was a bankruptcy
attorney.

Our prayers were own our home and be out of debt. We wanted
the home to have the perks and upgrades but just debts was the main goal. The
first problem was the attorney said don’t go bankrupt and that was the best
advice I got in this process. It started with a job, not good paying but a job
all the same. This and a “Dave Ramsey” laser focus on debt, we started chipping
away. Well 5 years later our credit card debt was gone and we were liquidating
our properties, but now in a sellers’ market and not a crashing one.

Then we got the offer for our farm in Suwanee and the doors
opened for opportunity. The process took over a year and was painful but we can
now say we are 100% debt free and live in the home of our dreams. Now I thank
God every day I wake up and look at the mountains, but at the same time I am
uneasy talking about this since I don’t want to give false hope to others or
make people think God is all about money.

Before this I was focused on a new age fad called the Secret
or the Law of Attraction where if you want something just believe and the
universe will align itself to you. It focused on money, but also talked about
the total goal of health, wealth, love, joy and peace. How many rich folk do you
know that do not have many of these? Any you do really have to know them to
understand the short falls. But we miss the spiritual connection with God in
this new age crap.

I will be processing this in the next few days but enjoy the
ride. I think we will see that the Prosperity Gospel and our mindset are key to
connect totally with God.

Rich Man Blues

Pastor Brian this week opened my eyes to look at an old
story a different way. Luke 16:19-31 is the story of the rich man and Lazarus:

19 There was
a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared
sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar
named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And
desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table:
moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it
came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into
Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And
in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and
Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father
Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his
finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But
Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good
things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art
tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you
there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you
cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then
he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my
father’s house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may
testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham
saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And
he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will
repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses
and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the
dead.

The sermon was on Hell and used this story to highlight
three things. First was the rich man was unnamed, yet Lazarus was named. This
showed that God loves the least of us and this is shown by the beggar having a
name. This should teach you that God cares about YOU!! How cool is that?

Second, was the rich man’s desire for wealth put him this
place. Notice he is in torment and does not ask Abraham if he will remove him
but rather to save his brothers. Honestly if it was me I would repent and ask
for mercy. The rich man does not he appears to desire his wealth even after
death where he refuses to let go.

Third, was not letting go of sin. We tend to miss out on God’s
glory because we cling to things here on earth. Have you noticed that even when
someone seems to have it all, they are miserable? I think of the Menendez
brothers who were from a wealthy family, yet unhappy. They were so unhappy they
killed their parents for the inheritance assuming that would give them a better
life. It landed them in jail with no money. So look to God for everlasting
peace and not things on earth that rust away (Matthew 6:19).

New Creation In Christ Is Easy? Right!

In watching a sermon by 12 Stone’s Dave Ronne about 2
Corinthians 5:17
got me thinking:

Therefore if any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become
new.

We are new and renewed in Jesus once we accept Jesus as a
savior, but is it that easy? For many I have seen, they are on fire right out
of the gate while others seem to struggle with it for years. I know for me it’s
been a 40 year process. Dave talked about this with the Backwards Bicycle that
has been made popular on YouTube
.

The idea that “it’s just like riding a bike” is not always as it seems. He made
a small change to a bike, reversed how the handlebars worked, made it
impossible to ride. He then went on a quest to ride this bike and for 8 months
he tried every day until he got it. Something that should be easy became
impossible. He had to learn something new.

This teaches us that learning something new is not always
easy, so the idea is keep working at it. To change from a selfish, self-centered
being to a selfless, Jesus-centered one. In passion we can change in an
instant, but often we need to work on things.

I look at a family member, who was on fire for Jesus yet as
things unraveled and another heart transformation happened we found she was a
crook. She saved money because she stole everything we thought she brought. She
changed but it took a long time.

I look at a dear friend, who in one miraculous service was
ignited. He went from turning his back on God to preaching the word eloquently.
Then he slipped and that started a spiral down which changed his life and
relationships. He has come to a rest and is building again in Jesus.

Both instances learning to be a new creation in Jesus was
easy, but it was also easy to unlearn it. We tend to take a while to learn
solidly. As in the video it took 8 months to learn the new bicycle, it takes
time to learn anything new. Unfortunately, it also can easily unlearn the new.
With Destin, after 8 months he jumped on the old bicycle and it took 20 minutes
before he could ride it again. Where it took 8 months to learn something new,
it only took 20 minutes to unlearn it.

I am sure with Destin, he could learn to eventually do both
without a problem. But it shows us how we can easily unlearn the salvation
found in Jesus. The key is after 8 months of learning a new things, especially
if it’s away from Jesus, don’t jump back on the old bike and expect things to
be the same. Ask any preacher that failed in relationships or financial matters,
how easy it is to get back into the grove and preach. Two things I learned here
is how difficult it is to learn something new and how easy it is to revert back
to old ways.

So the key is stay in connection with Jesus. How do we do
this? First and easiest is a designated quiet time to pray. Next is connect with
a body of believers, be it a church or a small group of friends who meet regularly
to discuss Jesus (and not gossip). Finally and most difficult is read the Bible
daily. I say this because in 2008 I learned to read the Bible daily and since I
have read the entire NIV, ESV, NLT and The Voice. So 4 complete reads, yet
today my Bibles collect dust and rarely get lifted. I stopped to “rest” and now
I have stopped. So I learned one skills and quickly forgot it, keep watching to
see how long it takes to get back on the “bike”.

Will I Be Allowed In?

Recently a Facebook post got me “a thinkin” about things. It
was about Matthew 7:22 – 23 which draws attention to false belief:

22 Many will
say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in
thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then
will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work
iniquity.

 

This passage has always got my attention because I question
my belief from time to time. Now let me clarify, not my faith in God but rather
am I doing it right? Will I cry “Lord, Lord!” only to hear “I never knew you”?
It kind of freaks one out when you read this passage and really dwell one it.

Believe me more than once my faith has been questioned. I
actually have had a crowd of friends trying to help and said this to me because
I was rejecting their help. Ironically the same person who they were trying to
help has said the same thing to me. Both thought I was too analytical and did
not really believe. So I have man telling me I am all mixed up.

I like the puzzles in the Bible. I love finding God in
everyday life. I love the hunt and the way we miss God so often. I often am “cold”
and detached in my interpersonal relationships. I have been accused of being
too into the study without actually applying what I have learned.

So with many close friends saying this too me, you can
understand why I have a fear I will hear these words from Jesus!

Back to the FB post, since that brought a different light to
this passage. Notice how the wording is we, bringing attention to the people
doing the acts and not God himself. The point is the people are diverting glory
from God to themselves. This becomes a heart thing which mankind cannot tell.

On the surface we do things FOR God, but are we doing them
to glorify God or ourselves? Are we doing it to expand the kingdom or just feel
good about helping others? Are we “blogging” about God and not living God? In
the end we are the only ones who know, other than God.  

I think the key is love God and not self. If you heal
someone, know it’s not you but rather God.

Are We In The End Times? If So What Is Your Plan?

Matthew 24 has Jesus answering his disciples on when the end
times will be. Every generation as they age feels this is the end. I am sure
the generation that was old during WWII assumed that was the end times, now
those that lived through the 60’s are looking today and seeing it. Verse 6
talks about wars:

And ye shall hear of wars and
rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to
pass, but the end is not yet.

We can go on dissecting this chapter and showing how it
applies today, heck people are now saying Yon Kippur is Judgment Day this year
(September 23, 2015). Like Harold Camping before, we cannot be sure if they are
right or wrong. We can look at Revelations 6:15 to see this happening:

And the kings of the earth, and the
great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and
every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks
of the mountains;

The “elite” are making bunkers and getting ready for a
collapse. Many look at Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged with Galt’s Gulch being the
haven for the elite as a blue print for what is happening today. It seems
incredible that a book where the newest writings are some 2000 years old predicted
what is happening today. With this I wonder if it is true for today or are we
going to wait?

Honestly it doesn’t matter because what happens will
happen and we must be calm. We should not be “hunkering down” for the calamities
but rather help through them. We need to remain calm and show people where our
hope rests. Run into the mess and show Jesus so others may gain salvation before
it is too late! Share and serve Jesus in these times, not run and hide.

Science Revisited

In looking back at the article in National Geographic titled
“Why Do Many Reasonable People Doubt Science?”
by Joel Achenbach. The reason I
am revisiting it is not to prove or disprove my stance on evolution, but rather
to highlight the problem ultimately in any debate and that is BIAS. The article
noticed that many people with scientific understanding were doubting science.

The author grouped these people into two tribes, the “egalitarian”
and the “hierarchical”. The “egalitarian” have a more communal mind-set who “are
generally suspicious of industry and apt to think it’s up to something
dangerous that calls for government regulation”. While the “hierarchical” have
a more individualistic mind-set who “respect leaders of industry and don’t like
government interfering in their affairs”. One tends to trust industry, while
the other trusts government.

What they missed are people like me who think both are out
for their own self-interest and therefore fail to see the “big picture” and
focus on what matches their agenda. This is also known as BIAS! And in the case
of the author he was writing more with the perspective of an “egalitarian” trying
to understand the “hierarchical” mind-set. In the end he was protecting his
tribe by claiming those who believed science were “rationalists” implying those
who were not were irrational.

Mr. Achenbach suggests “for some people, the tribe is more
important than the truth; for the best scientists, the truth is more important
than the tribe.” Often in talking to scientists about God, evolution and the
truth, their minds are made up with the tribe of atheists that believe we are random
occurrences in nature and not a created universe. The ultimate debate is not
how originalism change and adapt over time, but rather IS there a God or not.
Scientifically I cannot deny evolution, we have observed it in nature and often
we look at historical science and the fossil record and it is difficult to deny
the conclusions, unless you have an open mind … but that would require a book
and not a blog to describe.

So maybe now is the time to start that adventure to support
the truth and find it no matter where it takes me. So this could become and
evolutionist turned creationists turned back to evolutionist, or my current
beliefs may be supported. It will be a fun adventure either way. Unfortunately
it will take a lot more to disprove God, since I can already support evolution,
the Bible and BOTH timelines.

I digress, although the article was more focused on climate
change there is an undertone that the people who deny evolution are so ignorant
they don’t even need to be addressed. I have a different slant on his
assumptions, for me I am neither an “egalitarian” nor a “hierarchical” since I
don’t trust either group. I find both groups cannot be trusted since both have
agendas and biases that slant their paradigm on how they view the data.

For his example on climate change, I do not deny that the data
shows a 1.5 degree rise over the past 130 years, I also don’t deny that the
interpretation of the data may be wrong. One side says the man has caused the
change, the other side says the data is wrong and we do not need to change. Me
I say we are creating a mess and need to clean the way we do things, the
problem is Adam Smith’s “Invisible Hand” in the market place. In the USA we see
industry is polluting our streams and air to the point it was harmful to man,
so government creates regulations that become burdensome on companies and raise
their costs. The people do not accept the higher prices and buy cheaper stuff
from another country that does not see the problem with polluting. So the
market cleans up the mess in our yard, while making one in another country. Nothing
changes overall, the problem moves and gets worse.

So with climate change as with everything else in the
article, the total story is missing. The “deniers” are not anti-science, but
rather choose a more rational view of the data. Often a rational view is not
the accepted scientific view and can sometimes get confused with people who are
considered ignorant of science. One thing climate change scientists seem to
miss is the earth is an incredible machine that is difficult to stop. We have
seen evidence of catastrophic events that have changed things for a moment, but
eventual equalize out.

So to Mr. Achenbach I say it’s not that ALL reasonable
people who reject science don’t understand it. Everyone brings in a bias which
often is not the same as “accepted” mainstream science. My favorite example of
ousted science is Dr. Walter Veith, a biologist who believes in creation and can
explain (and demonstrate) why. He is rejected as a fringe scientist. I am
saying remain open minded, stay grounded with God and explore the world!!

Sluicing for Scripture

As you may know I have been gold mining recently and
learning how it’s done. The idea you grab a pan and search for gold is true,
but doing it that way takes a bunch of time, unless you find a load and get
ounces in a shovel full. The first thing you learn in mining is you need to
move a bunch of “material” or dirt, more specifically gravel. What a pan does
is give you the ability to take a shovel full of dirt and clean off the mud,
then let the gold settle to the bottom of the pan while you sift out the rest.
A good pan’er takes about 3 to 5 minutes to pan off a shovel.

As you can see this takes time and honestly the results are
more often disappointing. Miners developed a sluice box which allows water to
flow through it and clean the dirt. While the dirt goes through the box, it
passes through “riffles” which slow down the water and create eddies. As the
dirt passes through the riffles the heavier material settles to the bottom and
stays in the box while the lighter dirt comes out the back end. From here you
can pan what is left in the box and get the “pay-dirt”!

Often we “sluice” scripture to find the one verse that means
everything. To me you can “sluice” it down to two verses. The first is Genesis
1:1
which says:

In the beginning God created the
heaven and the earth.

That falls into the riffles because without God having the
ability to create everything from nothing, we have a fairytale. The second
verse is John 3:16 which explains salvation:

For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.

From here we have “sluiced” the Bible down to God being all
powerful and how Jesus’ death on the cross gives us eternal salvation. Your job
is done, all you need to know is here!! Or is it?

The problem with trying to find the one or two verses that
fits your present paradigm is you miss the overall message. You miss the intricacies
of each story in the Bible and how it teaches us the nature of God. You miss
how through misery Job still loves God! You miss each story of the least likely
being used to show God’s glory. You miss the love of Jesus even dying on a
cross. You miss getting to know God intimately through His Word.

The other thing you notice is context is lost for both
believers and non-believers. Scripture is used to show inconsistencies without
understanding the context or it can be used the make your point that in context
would be contradicted. So sluicing is great for sifting the worthless material
from the gold, but it’s NOT what we should do with the Bible. From start to
finish it builds our understanding of the salvation we have in Jesus. READ IT!!

Should We Question Science?

I recently read an article in National Geographic titled Why
Do Many Reasonable People Doubt Science

, about how many in society today are
rejecting science, from evolution to GMO’s to fluoride in the water. The
article was a full defense of science today. Now I am not looking to bash
science, in fact I love it and embrace it. BUT …

The article started with a funny scene from Dr. Strangelove
where General Ripper who has started a nuclear war with Russia, while defending
his command he starts telling Mandrake about the reason he drinks rain water,
fluoride!! The gist is, it was absurd to question it in 1964 and even more so
in 2015 since there has been decades of science showing no harm. Yet their
point was many still question the addition of fluoride to the water system.
Just watch or listen to Alex Jones and you will hear this a bunch.

Now in defense of the anti-fluoride people, there is very
little research on what has been the long term effects on this. Also, while fluoride
is “natural” the chemicals used are often waste from toxic production, so
granted small quantities may be helpful, it seems often if you follow the money
you will find that science is often corrupted. The idea is small amounts of
this toxic material contain fluoride and therefore may be helpful and we can
dump it in the water without the EPA coming down. See the ugly loop.

Now the article was taking the stance that the nay-sayers
were backwards and ignorant not believing science, although time and time again
they find science today is agenda driven for money. Take another of their
examples, climate change. No one can deny that pollution is having some effect
on the environment, often very negative. Yet, if one questions the science of
climate change we are conspiracy theorists. Former VP Al Gore lectured us in
his book and movie An Inconvenient Truth and gave us a “hockey stick” graph
showing the impending doom. As time continued and the data did not fit that
graph, people started questioning the science and the conspiracy was exposed on
how the data was manipulated and tweaked to make the result what science
desired.

This is the bias that is injected into science which people
question. It’s not GMO’s that are the problem, heck without GMO’s and science
manipulating evolution we would not have seedless grapes. What was not
discussed was Monsanto manipulating corn, by splicing a toxic substance to make
it “Round-up resistant” so the growers could plant these seeds that could then
be sprayed for weed control. Then we are told that the testing showing the corn
was safe could be trusted, even though an independent lab did the same test
over a longer period with horrific results was disclosed.

Then there is evolution and how bias in science has made
even the religious leaders reject chapter 1 of the Bible. How could the earth
be young? How could anyone question that who has looked at the data? But ever
wonder why radiometric dating has an exponential component? See once the graph
goes beyond where we can verify we see the linear data get stretched out into a
timeline that dismissed God. One who questions this data are “flat earthers” yet
the equations may be linear if we could actually look at the data with a bias
slanted towards a young earth.

Where this article bugged me was how Galileo’s work showing
how the planets orbited around the sun and rotated on its axis was so
revolutionary, but today we know it to be basic first grade science. Then they
juxtapose this with climate change and evolution to say how rejecting this is
like rejecting planetary science. They failed to mention WHY people question
climate change or evolution (beyond theological reasons).

The obvious BIAS to the article is no different than BIAS
scientists have. Sure “bucking” the trend is where Galileo’s findings became
known as true, but they assume then we must trust science. They mention science
may be wrong, but will eventually find truth. And they did highlight the bias
in the medical field, where drugs are often released with sloppy testing and
buried harmful side-effects that could cost the company billions if ethically
disclosed. At what cost though.

My point was the other BIASED positions were not displayed.
Climate Change is driven by scientist who believe that man-made pollution is
causing irreparable damage to our planet. While science that can show
ecosystems that repair themselves quickly from harm are rejected since they are
funded by “big oil”. Evolutionary science when questioned about say life came
from a single point and man “evolved” from lower level primates, they are not
answered but rather ridiculed as believe sand-script over hundreds of years of
science. The article showed people who question evolution like the
father/daughter team in the movie Paul, where they had a wholesale rejection of
evolution and looked like fools. Yet someone like Professor Walter Vieth who
makes a very detailed scientific argument FOR creation is ignored and lumped
into the same group as the Paul characters.

Weigh All Advice With Scripture

Job 5:3 – “I have seen that
fools may be successful for the moment, but then comes sudden disaster.”

Last re-blog of 2010 study of Job

Eliphaz is continuing to talk with Job through this chapter
… he is suggesting what Job needs to do and how he needs to approach God to
present his case. Eliphaz help sounds godly, but is not when you dig deep into
the advice. Eliphaz mixes fact with fiction to create justification which
sounds correct.

Watch for this kids … people do it all the time. Some will
mix fact and fiction and confuse the truth. In fact you will do this from time
to time to get your way … don’t!!

Now we look at some of the facts Eliphaz states to Job …
this is one which I liked. How many times we go off “half cocked”??
Just doing something without planning or thinking about what needs to be done!
This is foolish … when we look at this in a biblical sense, how many times do
we break from God and have success?? Our sin leads to something positive in our
minds, we get what we wanted … suddenly it’s gone. Sin will make you happy in
the short term, but our lives will accumulate bad very quickly and the “good
times” will end quickly.

They have no meaning and we never meant to be in Gods eyes.
If there is a question of “right and wrong” go to the bible, your
parents, your preachers and friends you trust before taking a wrong path. God
has put good people in your life to help.

Proverbs 2:3-6

3 Cry out for insight,

     and ask for understanding.

4 Search for them as you would for silver;

     seek them like hidden treasures.

5 Then you will understand what it means to
fear the Lord,

     and you will gain knowledge of God.

6 For the Lord grants wisdom!

Jobs friend Eliphaz responds to Jobs problems … basically
saying that Job brought these problem on himself because of sin … great help
huh!! As a friend you do need to shoot straight with them and not blow smoke up
their … well sugar coat problems. But Eliphaz could not find fault or
problems he just ASSuMEd Job committed sin … and as we know when you ASSuME
you make an ASS of U and ME!!!

Also, when you friends are down we do not need to judge why
they are down … just help them out. Show Christ in your actions … he helped
the down trodden … he never embraced their sin, he showed them what was
right. If a friend crashes their car while driving drunk … you help them with
their drinking problem and help them with the car.

Jesus did freak out sometimes like in the temple … but the
leaders should have known better!!

Proverbs 10:19

 Too much talk leads to sin.

Why Does Bad Happen?

An email study on Job from 2010.

Job 3:23 – “Why is life given
to those with no future, those God has surrounded with difficulties?”

Job finally complains, but does not curse God … just asks
why he was born. Then why is anyone allowed this pain. This is a good question
… and I am sure we have asked something like this before when in a difficult
situation.

Why does God allow pain, suffering, tsunamis, earthquakes
… fill in your concern. I can’t answer this, other than to know God allows
choices and our choices sometimes cause problems. God also made this world …
to get the desired results He need faults to create majestic mountains, He
needed weather to transport water … sometimes these events cause problems and
pain. It’s just the earth doing what is was designed to do.

I think we all suffer greatly when it comes to everyday life
from time to time. Sometimes it’s our own doing … sometimes it’s a Saudi
prince … either way we should always look at the bright side of life …
Jesus did even on the cross.

Don’t Curse God, Good And Bad Happen to All

This is a reblog of emails I sent out in 2010.

Job 2:10 – “But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish
woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything
bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.”

At this point Job has been covered in boils (basically a
huge zit that itches) … his wife, who also lost kids, servants, livestock and
the rest, said Job should curse God and die. This is Jobs response.

Job is basically saying we should not be fair weathered
believers. God may not have caused what’s happening to us, but He is in charge.
“Fair weather” Christians are easy to find … the stock market is
good, their job is rocking, their kids are church leaders … God is good. But
if all that were to change, what is that person’s outlook on church and life??

We are to praise God through the good as well as the bad. We
need to understand that God is in charge … and that in God all things work
for the best. When things are thought don’t just pray for them to get better,
thank God for the lessons and the experience.

Proverbs 6:16-19 –  

16 There are six things the Lord
hates—

     no, seven things he detests:

17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue,

     hands that kill the innocent,

18 a heart that plots evil,

     feet that race to do wrong,

19 a false witness who pours out lies,

Revisit Job

This is one of my originals,
before the blog … re-blogged.

Job 1:20 – “Job stood
up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground
to worship.”

Ok … one may ask why Job??
It’s one the most depressing stories in the bible … God allows Satan to
destroy Jobs life to prove that Job was a faithful man. The first
“test” takes Jobs livestock, farms and children were destroyed. Job
was crushed … and disappointed … but did not blame God.

As I look at this I would
NEVER want to endure what he did to prove my faith. I could not imagine God
allowing Satan the ability to kill his children … that would have made me
question God. I could imagine allowing then go away, but destroy would raise
and eyebrow or more.

I understand showing Jobs
faith and how strong it was … even though there are many questions to
come.  I don’t understand why taking his
children was allowed. I guess when you are God ending our life on earth ends up
being better then maybe I could understand it that way.

Faith will be tested …
hopefully you will never have to endure what Job did to “prove
yourself” to God. Be strong in faith and in your life … don’t worry
about the trials along the way…

you have been a fool by being proud or plotting evil, cover your mouth in
shame.”

Community

In thinking about the friends we left in Georgia I started
to ponder the community of believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 talks about what we
should do as individuals:

24 And let
us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but
exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

 

That is the only thing I really miss in Georgia was the
community of friends and fellow believers we left. I think of 12 Stone church
and however large it was, you had a very tight knit group of believers. I think
of the multiple small groups I was a part of and how each formed lasting
friendships. These friendships helped each other stay on track as followers of
Jesus.

I remember the outpouring of support our family received
when my heart failed. It was amazing what had been done to help us out. I
remember the support we got rebuilding a home for “kingdom work”. This home was
a mess and within months was a beautiful home that helped a few. I think of the
work we did helping a few out where we could.

I think of Shadowbrook and the relationships from there that
have remained. How that opened our eyes to service work and how sometimes it is
not received how we would expect.

I think of Men’s Step Up, another tight group who every
Friday at 6:30 am would gathers and talk about Jesus. We would take lies from
the world and unpack them with truths from the Bible. Many close friends came
from this group that have stood beside me during some struggles in life.

I also think of Mama’s Board n Bike and the community of
friends we met from there. It was amazing the number of lives we came to know
and enjoy through this business. Sure it was a headache most of the time, but
the contact and community was wonderful. I see our “group ride” is still going
even after being closed for 5 years.

I think of today as we live in the middle of nowhere
and are slowly developing a community of friends again and wonder if it will
ever be like “home”? 

Don’t Look Forward And Worry, Look Back And Prepare

The future is pressing on everyone’s mind. What does it
hold? Are we going to be ok? Is China’s problems going to collapse the world’s
economy? Are all these signs showing the coming of Jesus? What will happen
tomorrow? Matthew 6:34 is often used to try to settle our spirits:

Take therefore no thought for the
morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient
unto the day is the evil thereof.

This has been used as a cliché bumper sticker since the
words were spoken, but we need to see it’s true. We need to understand that
God, through all the muck and mire is our salvation. Sure things may suck
tomorrow or they may be a new day in a wonderful future. We never know for sure
and that is why we should not worry.

I can go on for hours on the negative health effects worry
and stress have on one’s body, but it’s sufficient to say that it is not
positive. So why get drawn into the mess? Jesus made it clear we need to focus
on today and living pure and clean today. If China brings the world markets
down, then so it will be and nothing your worry will change.

A close friends is freaking out about the recent drop on
China’s SSE Composite Index, but when we step back and see it over time we see
this is not as bad as 2007/8 when things were awful. Also, everyone looks at
the “Great Depression” as the future reality, but in reality things were tough,
but we survived and learned. Unfortunately it seems that as a generation that experiences
calamity dies away, the next generation tends to relive it.

So really we should look BACK and prepare, not forward
and worry. Know HISTORY and learn from other’s misteaks.

Love Wins – Deaux (Flags)

Ok since we are touching subjects in the news, we need to
also touch on the South Carolina shootings and the Confederate Battle Flag.
First, being white it almost immediately disqualifies me from commenting.
Believe it I am not saying this sarcastically, but in all honesty. I don’t
really understand the race issues blacks deal with. I look at race through my
eyes while blacks look at it more collectively. When a white guy gets shot
wrongfully I think it’s sad, if a black person gets shot most blacks think it
could have been them.

I look at the flag as a flag, nothing more. Many, if not
most, blacks look at it as a racist symbol. I don’t get it, until I look at
history. The Civil War was about state rights and not slavery. At the same time
slavery was the key point, although it was only practiced by a small minority
of southerners. Now the reason I look at history, we need to look at when the
Confederate Battle Flag was flown the South Carolina capital building and added
to the Georgia state flag. As much as the whites will argue this is a southern
heritage thing, the face it coincided with desegregation of schools is a middle
finger flown in the face of the black. Why not fly the National flag of the
confederacy (the real stars and bars)?

So is it right to remove the flag? Yep, it really should
have been dropped decades ago and the fact the death of 9 people forced the
issue is sad. The reason this is so sad is a man who was nuts is somehow was not
going to do this act because the flag has been dropped. It was a political
hatchet job to do this NOW, since the idea a flag would have made a hill of
beans for those 9 souls is sad. Sure the tragedy highlighted this issue, but more
implied it was the cause.

So while good arose from a tragedy, it should have been done
a long time ago. Again Dylann is still a whack job that the social system
failed on. This really needed to highlight the fact this guy went for so long
without getting on anyone’s radar, it should open a discussion on the failed
family network in many homes today, it should highlight mental illness … on and
on, but a flag should never have been an issue and unfortunately it was and
overshadowed the real reasons.

Now I like to try to figure out our social problems with
scripture and had a tough on on this, but racism is something that is judging
people wrongly as a race. Matthew 7:1 said it simply:

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

This is simple and really what is called racism is really a
“prejudice”. Now again this is a white and black difference, while whites look
at judging an individual and often judge black differently than whites. Blacks
look at it as a racist mentality inbred into society. Think of it this way a
white guy is on the road smoking pot he is a hippie, a black guy is smoking pot
he is a tug. THAT IS THE PROBLEM!! And that is so ingrained into society, it
will be a few generations before it’s gone. Today I look at people who get
tattoos all over the place as a problem, I prejudge these people has never going
anywhere since society has biases. Does that make me a tattoo racist or just
not seeing a shift in society, like my earring was 30 years ago, tats are
today. The person is not the color or colors of their skin but their character.

We need to stop the BS and just love everyone like we
would love ourselves … refer to Matthew 22:37 and 39 and remember it’s NUMBER
2, not NUMBER 1;-)

Love Wins

We can go into scripture and see that homosexuality is
considered a sin by God. Cite Genesis 19:1-13, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus
20:13
, Romans 1:26-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9. Now if you read each passage you
may find specific verses about this subject you will find a wide range of other
sins that are “detestable” to God. Take 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that says who “will
not inherit the kingdom of God”:

 9 Know
ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not
deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate,
nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

10 Nor
thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall
inherit the kingdom of God.

You know what I see? People who have sex out of wedlock,
people who idol things including cars, tv stars, homes or whatever. I see
people who are drunkards, extortioners and thieves. I see ME in that mix more
than a homosexual couple who wants to marry the one they love. So how can WE
judge any person based on standards most, if not all, would or have failed in
their lives?

Research all the passages and you will see if we get on our
high horses about this, then we MUST do the same for people who eat all you can
eat shrimp since gluttony and eating shellfish are “detestable” to God also!

We can go to nature and say well the species cannot
reproduce itself with same sex partnerships. While this is true, the species
can also survive with the low numbers of gay people verse sexually active heterosexuals.
At least for male acts, the main orifice used in the act of sex is designed for
expelling waste and rips when entered into. We don’t really need to explore
this anymore, you get the point nature says no also.

Or does it? Every homosexual I have known since their youth
has grown up “normal” yet at an early age seemed to trend gay. So I do believe
people are BORN that way, if so why would God have created someone to sin or be alone? Sure we can say psychopaths are born wanting to kill but can control it
and just become lawyers. So someone may be attracted to the other sex does not
mean they need to follow through. Back and forth we go. The clear point is
people are born that way.

Scripture does support the gay lifestyle also, like in
Genesis 2:18 when Eve was made:

 Adonai, God,
said, “It isn’t good that the person should be alone. I will make for him a
companion suitable for helping him.” – CJB

If someone like same sex companionship they why does this
not apply to them?

One also could look at Ruth and Naomi’s relationship or
David and Jonathan’s and say they were gay, at least David was bi since he also
had many wives. So if David was a man God loved then how could he do this and
still be loved?

In the end, what does God really think? Now if man, in his
arrogance, thinks he knows the answer then you can finally partake in the fruit
from the tree of knowledge without sinning!! The key I see is right or wrong,
who cares! We are told to love everyone as ourselves and therefore not to treat
others with disdain because we THINK their lifestyle is wrong. No we just need
to keep sharing the Gospel of Jesus and welcoming ALL through our doors. If it
IS wrong, the Holy Spirit can deal with it later. He doesn’t need my help!!!

The classic CHURCH sign recently said “we are sorry
that gay marriage upsets the sanctity of your forth marriage”!

Going Back

This has been said by many, remember the “good ole days”.
But how many do and when? Do you really want to go back to the turn of the
century in the 1890’s? When smoke filled the winter air from every coal and
wood burning stove? When lights were candle and needed to be lit? When refrigerators
were not there to keep food edible? Before Tupperware for leftovers? When you
had to feed and clean up after your transportation, even if you were not using
it? For that matter your transportation had a brain of its own and often would
not do what you wanted! No the reflecting for the “good ole days” is something
we do while forgetting the limitations.

For me, think about maps, you don’t have to fold them
anymore! Also, the map required you to decide the route, while today
applications monitor traffic conditions and give you the best route based on
this. Calling home, if you were out and about when I was younger you had to
find a phone to call home and hope someone was near the phone and not in the
yard. Today, your phone is with you and often does more things for us than we
can imagine. Before I had to go to the library to research something, today I
can pick up my phone and find that same information via Google.

No going back to a simpler time has it’s draw backs, there
are major problems today but we have solved many of the major ones of the “good
ole days” and can move forward. Granted many solutions only create new and
different problems, but that is life.

Now with the church, do you want to go back to the 50’s and “Leave
it to Beaver” or the roaring 20’s? Or how about the Roman bath houses and Caligula?
We need to live in the now and not ponder on the past. Philippians 3:13 says it
well:

Brethren, I count not myself to
have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are
behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

The church I grew up in is different from today! In the 60’s
people just went to church outside the hippy movement. We found God and that
was just the way life was. Most businesses in the 60’s were not open Sundays and
if they were they did not open until after churches let out. Today many of us
have to go to work, many have to sleep since they worked nights, many don’t
even consider church since that is not the norm. Does that mean we go back to a
time without internet or fast food? Or do we work as a church in this new
paradigm?

The key through all this is not to look back and do things
the old way expecting different results, but rather adjust and do things
different to reach those who are “lost” in their relationship with Jesus. So
look for those service moments, look for those chance meeting to share your
story and do not get lost in “cliché land”!

Trilogy of Terror

This is off the topic of God, but one of my favorite shows
growing up was the Trilogy of Terror. I can’t remember all the stories but in
the 70’s that was the TV hit, the one that I recall the most was a little doll
that came to life and started terrorizing a lady. But that is not the story, it
made me aware of the term “trilogy” and have used it from time to time in
reference to this story.

Well recently we move to paradise and then things started
happening. To start this we found a home that was “exactly” what we wanted in
the middle of nowhere. So off we moved across the country to the “Promised Land”
and expected peace. It was a struggle and we had a bunch of “giants” to fight
to get here but once complete we crossed the river, well the creek, and took
possession. Lo we forgot the story how they had to fight and work to win and
maintain the land flowing with milk and honey.

So the first few days we had a door fall off, a very pricy
door. Easy to fix, but bothersome. Then the stream of problems started
including discovering some major structural problems like flooding and the septic
tank under the home to our water supply running dry. Each problem, although
major, still has not deterred us from loving the place, but it reminded me of
some movies.

The first was Money Pit, where Tom Hanks bought a home that
was too good to be true. It was sold with everything, including the old vintage
car. Well as things progress the house started to fall apart around them, so
paradise became jaded. After spending tons of money and time fixing the
problems the house is perfect. All ends up well and the story ends with the original
person selling another house. This reminds me of our seller who was directly
asked about the septic, flooding and water, who decided not to disclose any of
this. Again we are happy, just disappointed.

The second was Baby Boom, Dianne Keaton was a big executive who
inherits a baby that changes her life and she moves from the big city to the
country, only to run into tons of problems including having her well dry up. It
reminded me of the problems here and how we just want to turn of the faucet and
get running water. Again all ends up well with her move and she rejects a move
back to the big city for the simple life she found.

The third is Funny Farm, where Chevy Chase decides to leave
the big city to write his novel in the prefect home. Later did they find out
Eden was not all it was cracked up to be and they decided to divorce and move.
The town got together to get them out and did everything to make the home seem
perfect, like a Norman Rockwell painting. They did and they got an offer only
to reconcile and rekindle their love. All ended up well and they remained
happily ever after. Like our farm we have had some major hurdles, but I will
say are mail person is awesome even though she has to drive up and back down a
dirt road to get to our mail box.

Our town does have its quirks and the “bugs” are still
being worked out of the home. But we have found our “Trilogy of Terror” in The
Money Pit, Baby Boom and Funny Farm! Granted all the stories worked out with
their homes being perfect as ours seems to be still. But it’s funny how we can
no relate to each story and laugh at parts that we have lived.

Line In The Sand

Jesus in protecting a woman who was accused of adultery bent
down and wrote something in the sand. The passage is John 8:6 where he wrote:

This they said, tempting him, that
they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger
wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

Now there is a debate on what was written in the sand, some
claim it may have been a message to the people asking where is the man since
the act of adultery required both parties to be stoned. Others say it was a
line that people were asked to cross if they had not sinned. This has become a
saying throughout the years about giving boundaries.

As we can see the true Biblical interpretation does not say
anything about lines, but has been used as an early reference to the saying.
The most recent historical event that seems to have created the popularity of
the term was at The Alamo, where Colonel Travis drew a line knowing the
decision would be irreversible.

It doesn’t matter if Travis was inspired by Jesus’ acts or
did it on his own, the saying has a meaning of finality in a decision. This has
become a figurative line which people will not cross. There are so many lines
that once crossed lead to irreversible damage.

Take going out on the town with friends, the line for the “designated
driver” is not to drink. If crossed the potential for chaos and death rises
instantly, the only solution then is for all to sleep it off or call a cab.
This is rarely an option at that point since if they crossed the drinking line,
they most likely will cross the driving line.

Another line in in marriages and relationships outside those
bonds. It is impossible for a working couple not to have contact with the
opposite sex, but the line in the sand is obvious on where that relationship
goes. There should never be close intimate relationships outside those bonds
and one should try at all times to remain open, ie never go behind doors
without multiple parties or avoid business trips with the opposite sex (or same
sex, depending on your orientation). The senior pastor at 12 Stone, PK, had a
great story on a woman who came to him for counseling and tried to seduce him.
He ran from his office, got in his car and went straight home to his wife, just
up and ran away from “work”.

The other day I saw an interview with our son and it got a
little out of control with the interviewers. D did not cross that line and join
in. It was impressive since they were trolling to get him to follow them down a
“different” path and he did not take the bait. He just uncomfortably laughed
and squirmed while ignoring or deflecting the questions. He maintained his
composure and did not cross the line of decency.

In the end we must all “draw a line in the sand” daily
with regard to our life with Jesus. We crossed the line when accepting him into
our lives, hearts and souls to follow Him. From here we need to focus on not
crossing other lines that cause us to drift from that relationship. The key is maintain
integrity and learn that from the Bible. As antiquated as the book may seem, it
handles almost any situation we may face. Sure technology may evolved, but
human nature does not.

The Bad Shepherd

Zechariah 11:16 caught my eye today:          

For, lo, I will
raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off,
neither shall seek the young one, nor heal that that is broken, nor feed that
that standeth still: but he shall eat the flesh of the fat, and tear their
claws in pieces.

Initially
I read this and was concerned. Was God sending a bad shepherd? Then I dug a bit
deeper and thought a bit more. You need think about Jesus, “the Good Shepherd”
and then think about the Pharisees.
During the time of Jesus, these “righteous” men were ignoring the weak, the
ones who needed help and guidance. Their concerns were with lavishly living on
the tithe of others.

They had lost direction and, as
we know, led the people to kill the Lamb of God.  This was a warning then and is one always,
beware of people leading you down their path and not Gods. It’s easy to do, mix
in scripture, thoughts of the world and take things out of context, then you
have a story which seems plausible yet is not right. How do YOU protect
yourself and know the Truth?

Well the answer should be
obvious, study the bible. I hope you take my “Thoughts” and dissect them to
make sure I am not off my rocker. The last thing I would want is to have your
faith based on my words and not the Word! My role is to make you think and
inspire you to study. Call me on where you think I am wrong; question my
conclusions as I hope you do with anyone teaching the Word. It’s not bad to do
so … again I believe God would rather see you do that than just sit back and
observe.

What Is Your Path?

A question was posed recently by Chris Huff on his blog
which asks Do You Know What You Want?
It was an insightful blog that was
inspired by Dan Reiland. Both of these men pastor for 12 Stone church and I
hold them both in high regard and therefore got me thinking. Because I could
not answer all his questions!! I really did not know what I want and that dove
tailed into where am I going?

Most of life we are in autopilot and often don’t even
consider the bigger picture. When I was young I did not want regrets and now
that I am in my “mid-life” I have a few. Fortunately less than many, but more
than most will admit.

I regret moving from job to job. The younger people think
that is the norm, but I can say after 30+ years of jumping jobs I can say they
are all basically the same with a few minor differences. If I stayed longer at
any I would be in a better spot today, or would I? If I would have stayed with
LMSC I would still be in California, or maybe not since most of LMSC was let
go. If I would have stayed with JHK would I still be in Georgia? Maybe or maybe
not since I may have been transferred. If I would have just stayed at a few for
longer than a year or so I would definitely have an easier time finding work,
or maybe not.

I can go through a string of failed relationship with the same
questions and can say we may not have the prefect marriage, but are there
really any perfect ones?

I can go through my health and how I did not take it all
that serious. We know where that ended up for me, dead on the floor.

I can go through my racing and see how I failed at all the
different sports from MX to running. Although I never made it big, I still
enjoy all the sports. I also live my life through my children who are doing
what I dreamed of in life.

Yes I have regrets, but do I care? Yes and no, because
in a way if something changed for what I think would have been better I would
not be on the path I am on today, waking up with a smile and peace. So while
you may think you know what is best for you, understand God knows what is
better and He will work those frailties out and use them for His glory.

Freedom From Religion

This is a continuation from my last post since this is a
relatively hot topic the past few decades. I point to the removal of the Ten
Commandments from courthouses as being a step away from the First Amendment of
the Constitution
. I guess we need to quote this to really get an understanding
of what is said:

Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of
the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress
of grievances.

This was actually the third article of the Bill of Rights
which is lost by many, but this is a technicality that is not the issue. The
irony of this is the “freedom of speech” is often separate from the “freedom of
religion” in most people’s minds. The same people who force the removal of the
Ten Commandments also force their voices to be heard. They are missing the
point!!

Freedom of religion means no state sanctioned church that
one is required to attend, it does not mean the state is required to insulate
us from religion. As I write this we are in a battle over the Confederate
Battle Flag, which is the symbol of a “racist” attitudes that has been pushed
to the forefront by a shooting in a black church. Those who point to how this
nut was raised and how society failed him are silenced by those who feel the
flag must be the root cause.

Well what the confederate flag represents is still very
debatable, those who say slavery and racism have valid arguments, but miss the
point of state rights is typical of how history gets modified. The same thing
can be said for the Ten Commandments on the court house steps, they are not a
symbol of religious tyranny but rather the basis on which most of today’s laws
are based. If you read the first 5 books of the Bible you will notice the
system of justice set up for Israel is much like what is in place today.

As yourself this, why is it ok for an atheistic scientist to
be allowed to promote evolution in the class room, yet a theistic one cannot
talk about creation? Walter Veith has some very compelling arguments that support
Young Earth Creationism, but in the push for freedom from religion that is not
allowed to be discussed in the classrooms. The hypocrisy is interesting that in
one breath “they” will demand freedom of speech for the porn industry and in
the other demand censorship from those in government who feel the moral compass
has been ignored based on the same amendment to the Constitution.

We have missed the mark! I am not saying the state must lead
a prayer at the beginning of each school day, but if a school so desired to it
should be protected by that same first amendment. Again we are missing the point,
freedoms do not give us carte blanche to say what we want. The intent was to
allow all views to be open to all and not suppressed like Christianity is today
in the government. The intent was to allow open debate without fear of the
government coming down on you. I believe that is why freedom of religion,
speech and the press are in the SAME amendment, so NONE shall be suppressed.

Be it a flag, a Bible or Hustler magazine we need to
understand that with freedom comes responsibility. As much as I feel YOU need
Jesus, I also accept that I can do nothing to change your heart other than
exercise my freedoms to try to compel you to change your heart. God’s number 1
commandment (based on the Jewish interpretation) is freedom and it comes down
to freedom to follow God. That is the beauty of our relationship with God since
if it’s forced it’s tempered and becomes contrite.

Back to South Carolina and Dylann Roof. Was it a lack of
exposure to God that caused his parents to separate, caused his support system
to ignore him, to allow him to be lost in hate all culminating in a murderous
rage or was it a flag? In Dylann’s instance freedom was denied from the get go
and will now be for the rest of his life. What if Dylann’s parents were allowed
Christian counseling from social services would things have been different for
those 9 souls?

Think about it, followers of Jesus are being pushed OUT of
the government since their voice is being silenced. A good Christian counselor
will go into ministry verses social services since they are free in one
environment and not free in the other. I am not saying the “state” should
integrate religion into the system, but allow it when there are proven results.
