Psalms 134 – 136
Verse 134:1 talks about our praise:
Lift up your hands toward His sanctuary,
and praise the Eternal.
So often life takes over our relationship with God and we forget to praise Him. We need to refocus our priorities and know God loves us and needs our worship. This is not because He is vain, but rather He knows how it connects us with Him and helps our relationship. If you’re not lifting your hands up to Jesus for what He did for you on the cross then maybe you need to reassess your attention to that. We should be jumping for joy that God has made a path that requires nothing more than belief in our Lord, Jesus.
Verse 135:14 gets me concerned:
For the Eternal will judge His people,
He will show compassion to those who serve Him.
The fact God judges the world is spooky, but when you read this it makes one wonder if following God is safe. This implies His judgment is spared for “His people” and not the world. I know this can easily be shown in other places that God will judge the world and has done so before. The “flood” was because the people of the world had drifted way away from Him. We need to understand we are held to a higher standard, but also are covered by the grace of Jesus.
Verses 136:1 & 2 start a repetitive Psalm:
1 Let your heart overflow with praise to the Eternal, for He is good,
for His faithful love lasts forever.
2 Praise the True God who reigns over all other gods,
for His faithful love lasts forever.
As you read “for His faithful love lasts forever” ends each verse. This is something we tend to not see in life many times. We become myopic in our perception of how we are being treated. Heck I can parse my life and show you how many times that seemed to be horrible times God rejected me and His love was not forever when years later I see the blessing it really was. Sometimes WE think WE know what is right and assume if WE don’t get that, it’s because “His faithful love” lapsed. Reality is God loves each of us and wants the best for YOU, just have faith it’s the right path!!
