If you really think about it the disciples assumed Jesus
would return in their life time. In John 14:28 – 29, Jesus tells his disciples he
shall return:
28 You heard me say
to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you
would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father
is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before
it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.
They though he was talking directly to them and therefore
they would see His return. So that was the start of “The End Is Near” chant. We
are over 2000 years of man saying it will happen soon. Heck Harold Camping
actually made two proclamations of an actual date, that came and past without
any events.
I look to Jonah and see a God change his mind and not
destroy Nineveh. So what says that God has not done this once again? I have no
idea, what may or may not happen.
Heck based on what the Jews were expecting as the Messiah,
could we be missing the mark in interpreting Revelations and End Time
prophecies? What if Jesus returned as He did the first time, a lowly worker
from a small town in the middle of nowhere? Would the “church” recognize Him or
would they reject Him as many of the Jewish leaders did.
This has been swirling in my brain for some time since I
have an issue with God destroying those who will not follow Him. I can see this
to those who reject Him to His face, but I can see God giving everyone one last
chance before He will execute His final judgement. Who knows?
The one thing I do know is since this has been going on for
so long, it does not do much to convert those who do not believe. The reason I
am writing is not to focus on the bad that shall come, but rather the GOOD that
IS available today. Share the Gospel, not with FIRE and BRIMSTONE but rather with
JOY and LOVE. The future is something we need to be concerned with, but the
present is why we need to share Jesus! So GO!!
