As we move through the armor of God from Ephesians 6:10 –
20
, verse 17 talks about the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit:

And take the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Salvation is what protects our minds, our thoughts, that
knowledge that we are “safe”. Paul chose the helmet’s status wisely since the
head can get messed with. If we don’t rest in the salvation through Jesus, we
really are missing the mark. Our minds are not in the game and our whole body
is at risk.

The Roman soldier protects his head since without it, the
battle is over. He literally needs to keep his “head in the game” since once it’s
not, it’s lost, literally. The knowledge of salvation helps us to maintain our
heads in the game since we don’t have to worry about evils fiery darts because
we know we will never lose the salvation through Jesus.

Now we get to the first offensive part of the armor and it’s
the sword. Although in this case it is the sword of the Spirit. The key point
is we need not fight the battle, just protect ourselves from the “chaff”
because the Holy Spirit will defend us. In a battle of the unseen and the minds
we need to enter into the Spirit and the realm in which it works.

When all is said and done, Paul lays out a image of what we
need for the spiritual battle before us and that which is all around us each
and every day. We need to prepare for forces unseen!! And honestly if you do
not see it as a risk then you need to dig deeper into your studies, since
worshiping an unseen God without heeding His warnings of evils us unwise.

So study, pray and talk to likeminded believers so you
to will be prepared to handle the onslaught that is here today.
