Child Like Faith … and Compassion

1 John 3:1 & 17 –

<1> See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.
<17> If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?

I picked two today .. because both were great. I will try to tie them together:-)

First we are “children” if you look at how old God is … plus we unfortunately have to be treated as such no matter how old. I can remember a few times you guys would point out how “childish” i was being … but I don’t want to talk about yesterday!! We must approach life as a child … with “child like faith”. We had faith that our parents would take care of it … we must have the same faith that God will take care of us. Funny how we are called sheep also … hmmmm … maybe our WILL is not the focal point!!

For 17, I can remember Vern being so torn up the first time she saw a homeless person in Atlanta … the concern was real! How many times as adults do we just step over the “bum” and walk on. “They could get a job if they had desire or would work as hard as they beg!” or “they make tons begging they don’t need my dime!!” … or “______ (fill in your excuse)” As a child we would help as an adult we ignore. If we are blessed and have Jesus in our hearts, we SHOULD help no matter what the reason. It’s showing GODS LOVE … just like we love Mom and Dad, we need to love God and show it buy loving others.

Hmmm … sounds like a theme in 1st John;-)

Proverbs 10:26

“Lazy people irritate their employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.”
