Genesis 4:4-5 –
<4> Abel also brought a gift—the best of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, <5> but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.“

Cain brought labor from the field while Abel brought labor from the flock. But Abel brought the BEST and although it does not say why we can only assume that Cain did not bring his best. It’s not until the New Testament that the quality of the offering is discussed in Hebrews 11:4. This should teach us never to give our second best to God!
From this story I only have more questions, why did God not accept the offering?? Why did Cain get so upset?? Where does Cain’s wife come from?? My theories abound, like Cain did not offer his best. Cain did not have years of examples of murder to learn from and although I believe he was a good man, he did not understand what anger does. Ugh I sound like a person justifying his actions … make me a public defender!!
I get stumped mostly on the wife here … was she his sister? Was she from somewhere else?? I look at day 6 from chapter 1, where man is formed. There is no specific reference to Adam until chapter 2 … so was Adam formed afterwards or was this talking about day 6?? I kind of have some strange ideas on this, like is Adam the start of the Jewish people and were there others He had created also? Or was the gene pool was ok for inter-family relations. I don’t know, but don’t want to think about Dana as my wife!!
Questions abound … some of this I read and just accept, because it’s beyond my brain to figure that out … the geek in my likes to think about it though:-)
