When Was The Last Time You Saw or Heard From God?

Deuteronomy 29:4 & 9 –

<4> But to this day the LORD has not given you minds that understand, nor eyes that see, nor ears that hear!
<9> Therefore, obey the terms of this covenant so that you will prosper in everything you do.

A few verses caught hold of me today for different reasons. Verse 4 makes me realize through all our advancements from the time of Moses this still holds true in many ways. How many of us can really explain God? I think my definition works, but is difficult to associate with the “personification” of God. Today we see God’s handy work, yet dismiss it or don’t recognize it. When was the last time you sat and watched a beautiful sunset? If you did was it glory to God or just a cool reflection off the atmosphere?

Hearing God is one of the most difficult we have today. I can understand who God is and see His magnificent work on a daily basis, yet I still have a difficult time hearing His prompts. I have never heard God audibly, but have heard Him through the word and circumstances. That little “voice” is the most difficult to follow since much of the time it’s just me wanting things. I could not tell you how many “prompts” I have been given to buy lottery tickets that end up being me wanting quick freedom from debt. Oh how I wish God would speak more clearly or I would stop clouding up my mind with “crap” so I can focus on God better.

I also liked verse 9 for the promise of prosperity. My “inner voice” knew debt was the wrong path to prosperity, but it was a quick and easy fix. Even though I knew the path of debt had no scriptural basis, I violated this part of God’s Law. Again this goes back to hearing God clearly and not letting ourselves override God’s desires for our lives. Don’t fool yourselves into violating God’s Laws by your own inner voice. In my case the 10/10/80 method would have been more painful in the short term, but would have alleviated years of misery wallowing in debt. The key is being able to discern God’s Laws and their application in your circumstances.
