Joshua 8:35 –
Every word of every command that Moses had ever given was read to the entire assembly of Israel, including the women and children and the foreigners who lived among them.
The Lord gave Joshua and the people of Israel favor again and gave them victory over the people of Ai. It’s amazing how just one person spoiled the initial fight. You have to wonder what blessings are lost for others because of stuff we do. Sometimes people say God always remains the same, I sometimes have to wonder since he seems to be more as a father with Israel then, yet more like grandpa with us today. That would be an interesting study for another time.
Where this verse took me this morning is Joshua did not save the Word for a select group of men. He knew it was for all to read and or hear. So he did not pick and choose the best verse for his message, he read it all. I know in today’s byte size world (and yes byte as in digital 8-bits) we get overwhelmed with information and never seem to have time for the Bible. Well guess what, we need to make it. The amazing thing is with all this technology we have access to so many cool things.
My favorite site, biblegateway.com, allows me to view almost any version of the Bible I want. If I want to understand a verse more fully I can get clarity from any number of interpretations. Also, there are apps that allow you to download the Bible on your phone. Heck there is one that will read it to you!! So as much as we say we don’t have time, we have more ways to learn the Word. So to keep with my favorite “slogan” from Nike, “Just Do IT!!” If my ramblings help, great keep using them as a study guide.
My suggestion is start small, like pick Matthew, then keep reading. Work on a chapter a day or a book a week, but keep working at it. Download the app and have it read to you while you are driving. Or you can become an obsessed “blogger” like I have become and make sure you keep reading to blog about it. No matter how you decide to do it, make sure you read with your own filters on. If you have questions, ask … don’t live in a vacuum. I read stuff and wonder why all the time, many times it’s just reading more. Many times it needs to be googled and other times I ask people who are schooled. Get excited, there is a reason this is the best selling book of all time!!
