Nehemiah 7:5 –
So my God gave me the idea to call together all the nobles and leaders of the city, along with the ordinary citizens, for registration. I had found the genealogical record of those who had first returned to Judah. This is what was written there:
We hear this throughout the Bible, where God moves someone in such a way that they follow Him. We live our lives following an unseen God who rarely actually talked with anyone audibly. So how did Nehemiah know this was a God idea? Was it because he has learned to sift through the noise in his brain to filter out God’s prompts? How about you and your filter?
Sometimes God is crystal clear in our lives while other times we consider him silent. I think when we are in those silent times we think God has “abandoned” us. I believe the reality is God continues to act in our lives daily, but He flies under our “radar” do we have to dig more to find him. When we are in a “spiritual desert” it’s our responsibility to dig deeper to find the “spring”. God isn’t going to always pop that Oasis over the next dune.
We are all going to have that lost time when we are not hearing from God. Winter is normal in the seasons as it is in our walk with God. It’s not how we respond to the good times, it how we respond to the quiet times. When we are dry and thirsty in a parched land, do we dig or quit? Psalm 63 is a great image of the times God wants us to dig deep. The key here is when you are “not hearing from God” it’s not that He is not there is you have not drawn in close enough to hear His whisper. So read, pray and mediate on God’s word daily, no matter what is going on outside.
