Rejoice In The Lord, Even When Things Are Looking Bad

Habakkuk 3:18 –

yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

How many times can we say this? Habakkuk is in the midst of an occupation and seeing much of the world’s injustices before him, and he realized where the peace can be found. The verse before this went through a laundry list of bad things that have happened or will happen in the future showing we need to be rejoicing in God’s salvation no matter what the world brings. Again when things are down how many of us can really say we are joyful?

I know I get caught up in the world and all its mess. I get upset at the worlds injustices like Habakkuk and wonder when justice will prevail. But when I really think about it what business is it of mine anyway? Sure many of my close friends have lost homes and we have personally been close many times, all due to rampant fraud in the bank and finance sector. I see this and wonder what I could do, and much of the time I lose hope in our nation and this world.

I know we could dig into Revelations and see that the end times are coming soon and we just need to relax in God. Habakkuk is only lamenting the current conditions and not the future destruction, so maybe I will avoid that discussion. After all these years on this earth I understand one thing and that is I will never fully understand God. I am comfortable with that and hope to be joyful like Habakkuk! Think about this verse more and wonder if your life if better spent getting upset at the injustices in this world or being joyful of your salvation? If you think joy is the way, then share it with others so maybe real change can happen in the world.
