Revelation 4:11 –
“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
How many times do we forget this? We start looking at God as our servant and not the other way around. We take the glory and honor, while at the same time trying to gain power. We turn our focus inward instead of outward to God. I am not saying this from “the pulpit” but as one of the “we’s”. I don’t give God enough glory or honor, and either hide His credit or take it.
We can take this to an extreme and praise God for everything. I know some who find reason to praise God under every rock. There is a happy medium between the two where the praise is necessary. Nature is one of those things where praise and beauty of creation is worthy of praise. Looking at how everything is unique and beautiful is real cool, especially when you take it past the bounds of our earth!
We look at events in our life and when we pull back the covers we see God’s hand all over the place. Events that seem to bring glory to our acts are unveiled as something in His master plan. With all this we just go on living life silent and not praising God. We seem to forget the intricate web God weaves in our life and for some reason think it’s all us. I know it would be nice to have an Elijah moment where God sends fire down to prove His power, but that most likely will never happen. But that person you meet, that odd event that changed things, that decision to follow your “heart” are all God sending fire down in a less dramatic way.
As I read this I was in amazement the detail John remembered and how eloquently he describes the experience. I put myself in his shoes and can only imagine the lack of justice I would say. Maybe “that was cool, there was a flying lion, cow, man-beast and eagle …” would be all I could remember. Think of people of the times and how difficult it was to edit their thoughts. Me it’s an easy key stroke to change a word or sentence. They had to rewrite it all over, like the good ‘ole days with typewriters, but imagine NO erasers! Anyway, enjoy the writings as both a message from God and a great piece of writing.
