Ever compared business that you go into? Notice how some
seem very efficient while others seem to just exist. Also, notice where you get
the best service and where you get awful service. If you look closely you will
notice that often the business that is over and above customer service, the owner
is close by or you are actually dealing with the owner.
I have seen the culture at some big box stores that are
amazing. The Grants Pass Home Depot is a perfect example of awesome customer
service. The owner of Home Depot is nowhere close to GP, OR, but the managers
and employees have created a very helpful environment and makes it a great
place to shop. I know near the end of owning our shop it was not a great
experience for customers, we were burnt out and tired. I have been into a few
bicycle shops and seen the same thing, one here in Grants Pass just closed a
few months after talking with the owner.
In a way when you own something you do what it takes to make
it succeed. On the other hand when you are an employee your focus is often
outside your job, sure you may want to do what it takes to advance your
position but in the end outside forces will be factors more than owners. This
is especially true with minimum wage jobs, which is why the GP Home Depot is a
standout.
What does the Bible say about our labors? 1 Corinthians
10:31 talks about how we conduct our lives:
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink,
or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
So they are not saying do your best as the owner or
when it is profitable for you or even when it’s in service for God, but rather
always do your best to the glory of God!
