Ok since we are touching subjects in the news, we need to
also touch on the South Carolina shootings and the Confederate Battle Flag.
First, being white it almost immediately disqualifies me from commenting.
Believe it I am not saying this sarcastically, but in all honesty. I don’t
really understand the race issues blacks deal with. I look at race through my
eyes while blacks look at it more collectively. When a white guy gets shot
wrongfully I think it’s sad, if a black person gets shot most blacks think it
could have been them.
I look at the flag as a flag, nothing more. Many, if not
most, blacks look at it as a racist symbol. I don’t get it, until I look at
history. The Civil War was about state rights and not slavery. At the same time
slavery was the key point, although it was only practiced by a small minority
of southerners. Now the reason I look at history, we need to look at when the
Confederate Battle Flag was flown the South Carolina capital building and added
to the Georgia state flag. As much as the whites will argue this is a southern
heritage thing, the face it coincided with desegregation of schools is a middle
finger flown in the face of the black. Why not fly the National flag of the
confederacy (the real stars and bars)?
So is it right to remove the flag? Yep, it really should
have been dropped decades ago and the fact the death of 9 people forced the
issue is sad. The reason this is so sad is a man who was nuts is somehow was not
going to do this act because the flag has been dropped. It was a political
hatchet job to do this NOW, since the idea a flag would have made a hill of
beans for those 9 souls is sad. Sure the tragedy highlighted this issue, but more
implied it was the cause.
So while good arose from a tragedy, it should have been done
a long time ago. Again Dylann is still a whack job that the social system
failed on. This really needed to highlight the fact this guy went for so long
without getting on anyone’s radar, it should open a discussion on the failed
family network in many homes today, it should highlight mental illness … on and
on, but a flag should never have been an issue and unfortunately it was and
overshadowed the real reasons.
Now I like to try to figure out our social problems with
scripture and had a tough on on this, but racism is something that is judging
people wrongly as a race. Matthew 7:1 said it simply:
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
This is simple and really what is called racism is really a
“prejudice”. Now again this is a white and black difference, while whites look
at judging an individual and often judge black differently than whites. Blacks
look at it as a racist mentality inbred into society. Think of it this way a
white guy is on the road smoking pot he is a hippie, a black guy is smoking pot
he is a tug. THAT IS THE PROBLEM!! And that is so ingrained into society, it
will be a few generations before it’s gone. Today I look at people who get
tattoos all over the place as a problem, I prejudge these people has never going
anywhere since society has biases. Does that make me a tattoo racist or just
not seeing a shift in society, like my earring was 30 years ago, tats are
today. The person is not the color or colors of their skin but their character.
We need to stop the BS and just love everyone like we
would love ourselves … refer to Matthew 22:37 and 39 and remember it’s NUMBER
2, not NUMBER 1;-)
