I was shocked to see someone read my blog and actually
commented on it (outside of friends and family). “Monkey Supreme” @SkepticalPet asked “How do you know prayer
is something more than talking to yourself?” I responded with “sometimes it
feels that way, then the undeniable happens and doubt is removed”. From there
we went back and forth for a while without any outcome since Mr Supreme
obviously was not real open to a discussion and is a self-described “Secular
humanist & Anti-theist”. So with that I hope he reads my blog in depth and
can see instances of prayer and man’s interactions with God.
I believe he feels I am a “bronzeage” idealist on a “train
to nowhere.” But that’s all right since a health understanding of science with
a belief in no God would be a natural belief. I know I bounce there from time to
time myself. Yet I have died and am here to talk about it. I have had miracles
happen, seen them happen, and connected the dots between prayer, God’s will and
reality to come to the conclusion that God must exist or statistical anomalies
are normal.
I assume with the name Monkey Supreme, he is a staunch
evolutionist and would love for him to research my “crap” on that subject. In a
nut shell we are looking at the EXACT same evidence and concocting a story
about how it all fits. Mine involves a supreme being while the evolutionist
involves chance. I can demonstrate mine in nature, showing how this randomness
is more than just chance but without a belief in there being a possibility of a
God one can easily dismiss the evidence.
There are actually only really two possibilities of how this
happened, random chance from an explosion or an orchestrated design. Both sides
can argue until they are blue in the face and unless each party considered the
other possible than they go nowhere. Like how I believe and extended discussion
with Mr. Supreme would end. We would both be frustrated that the other one did
not get it and we would have wasted each other’s time.
Often I revert to Matthew 10:14 which states:
And if anyone will not receive you
or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave
that house or town. (ESV)
Basically in context Jesus is telling his disciples when
traveling look for receptive people otherwise you will end up in debates that
are time-suckers and have no positive outcome for the kingdom. At the same time
if we take this approach for all who seem unreceptive to the Gospel, than we
waste our time on this planet. We need to understand the balance and don’t get
sucked into a long drawn out debate.
Today I pray for Monkey Supreme that he will get an
undeniable touch from God so that it begins to put into question his current
belief system. Also, that a friend who believes comes alongside him to answer
questions and help him develop a relationship with Jesus. I pray that my
discussion actually has him look deeper into my blog and reads my story from
May 17th, along with my evolution blogs to see I am not just a “bronzeage”
wacko, but rather a very techie nerd who has spent decades to come to the
conclusions I have, rather than accept the whole story of “faith.”
