Zephaniah 1:9 is a warning to the Jews of this time about
how they were practicing religion:
On that day, I will punish those
who jump temple thresholds fearing pagan demons,
those who exchange true
religion for silly superstition,
And those who use violence and betrayal to
steal from others
in order to make themselves
and their king rich.
What has happened during this time is God was being pushed
aside for other practices and gods. We see in verse 5 that Milcom was being
worshiped as well as God. What appears to be happening here is all the
religions of the time are getting mashed together and creating some practices
that are violating God’s sovereign reign. Milcom, AKA Moloch, is a savage
worship which was being mixed into Jewish practices.
We are seeing this today with the “COEXIST” movement where
all religions just get along. What in essence this is creating is a smorgasbord
religion where you get what you want from religion, a heaping servings of
Christianity, with a side of Islam, mixed with Atheism for safety and some
Buddhism for dessert. This has happened throughout the Bible and history.
This is where we now touch on the superstitions of then and
today. Think of the “step on a crack …” that we all grew up with. How many
actually stepped on a crack and their mothers back broke? None, because it was
superstition. The threshold thing then was that demons would live in the
threshold of a home and if you stepped on it you would allow them into you or
your home, so leaping over the threshold was a symbol that you were not going
to let them in.
This is where it gets into silliness and where I may have
recently crossed this line with demon’s and objects that have demonization
associated with them. Like Osiris shoes, I got it in my head that this was an
evil brand that had demonic attachment to their products when in reality they
were just shoes and clothing.
We see this in music, where the beat will conjure up demons.
At the same time this beat is used in some of the greatest worship music today,
so is this a superstition since evil happens with rock and people are assuming
it’s the rock and not the person? See how silly this can get, it’s a beat and
shoes not Satan. Just like money is not evil, but it’s the root when you allow
it to take control over you.
Remember the God we worship has power over Satan and will
destroy him in the end. As long as we remain in Jesus, we are protected from
Satan and his clutches. This is why we don’t have to be superstitious about
shoes, rock-n-roll or the Illuminati.
