Ok we have the Lord’s Pray as given from Jesus in Matthew
6:9-13 teaching us how to pray. Unfortunately many have learned this and can
recite it without thought. That becomes the problem we need to start to form
prayers based on our relationship with God and not others. I am not saying do
not pray the Lord’s Prayer because sometimes that’s all I got, but take it as a
model and build your prayers from there.
I have always been a “pray from the heart” person where
prayers just happen and for the next “few” (don’t know if it’s days, weeks,
months or years) I am going to write prayers and formulate them along the way.
The reason I am doing this is when I go “from the heart” I tend to get lost and
focus on the point and that’s it. Like “Oh God, save Timmy from the well, in
Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Now I do want to be careful here and not become a “hypocrite”
as discussed in Matthew 6:5 from Jesus’ warning:
Likewise,
when you pray, do not be as hypocrites who love to pray loudly at synagogue or
on street corners—their concern is to be seen by men. They have already earned
their reward.
I feel this will help us all build prayers when we look at
how one evolves. So this exercise may stop suddenly if I feel I am getting too
wrapped up in my own blog and not connecting with God. I often wonder if my “blogging”
is more to show everyone that I have been reading my Bible and not actually
study, but even if it was I have learned a bunch over the different versions
read.
So the model prayer has 5 basic parts, praise to God,
submission to God, a petition, confession/forgiveness and a plea for security.
Now I will make an attempt to follow the model in my own words.
“Father God, you are great and mighty, creating everything
from nothing and doing it in such a way that even the smartest minds cannot
figure how it was done. You are amazing!
I confess I have fallen short in my dealings with you and
have not laid my trust in you. I have anxiety over financial matters showing my
faith is not in you, forgive me and help me to renew that faith and trust. I
know you are in control of everything and all will work for your glory, even if
it’s not exactly as “my will”.
You will is above all, I know we can delay things with our “stiff
necks” and strong wills, but please softly remind me of how I need to remain
faithful to you. When all is said you are Holy and above me, so I submit to
your plan.
Lord, I come before you and ask that today I have peace in
this turmoil and can see your hand in all the chaos. Please bless Adam and his
business, help him to find you again and to pull tight. Please give me an
opportunity to share the Gospel with Cody today!
Lord, I ask you to protect my family as they are spread all
over this globe. Help them to know you and to learn to have faith that through
all the crud of life you are with them always. Show your glory in their day
today and protect them from evil.
Teach me to love you more! In Jesus’ name I pray, AMEN”
I did flip the order and put confession second, but only to “open
the path” to God. How about give it a try in the comments below or post it with
