Psalms
143
– 145

Verse 143:3 is often used incorrectly:

My adversary has pressed in, drawn
closer, threatened
 my life;
    he’s crushed me, driven me underground.
    He’s forced me to live in the dark;
    it’s as if I joined those who died a
long time ago.

We have to remember that our adversaries are often just
short attacks and not searching for us. David on the other hand was hiding in
caves to get away from King Saul who was hunting him. Often we try to apply
this to a mess we got ourselves into, like the current debt crisis. Think about
it, I didn’t have to have multiple credit cards that gave me access to over
$200,000 or buy the property I did without a job. It was not the “evil banks”
that did this to me, but rather me knowing I was not in a proper financial
place to cover the debt. Fortunately, it all has worked out very positively,
but it was not because the bank’s paid but rather my investments worked out
since we dug in to ensure they were paid.

Verse 144:4 appears to be stolen:

Humans are like a passing breath;
    their time on earth is like a shadow
that passes over us during the day and soon is gone.

I think of words Shakespeare
wrote in Macbeth that start “Out, out brief candle” that basically says the
same thing, we are just here for a flash when compared to time itself. Heck if
the earth is billions of years old or 10,000 years our short time on this
planet really signifies nothing. That is if you look at purely in numbers, but
our legacy should be counted in souls saved. Don’t take the “what does it
matter” mindset, but rather think of an eternity of torment or joy and would
you want that for yourself or others? If no than your life has meaning for the
people you connect with.

Verse 145:9 shows
me David got God:

But the Eternal’s goodness is
not exclusive
—it is offered freely to all.
    His mercy extends to all His creation.

The problem with being part of “the Chosen People” one could
easily get this “exclusive club” mentality. God is not just the God of Israel,
but rather of all creation. God is there for all and not just a select club. No
you ask then why is Jesus the “ONLY” path when there are so many other
religions. Well the easiest way to look at it is consider a club with a membership.
You cannot enter unless you join, but unlike most clubs this membership costs
nothing. There is nothing you need to do to join other than accept Jesus as
savior, believe his story and confess you have fallen short. This club is for
ALL and not just Israel.
