God Explained … By A GEEK … Not Greek;-)

Revelation 1:8 –

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.”

First for those who don’t know the Greek alphabet, Alpha is the first letter and Omega is the last. So this would be like saying I am the A and the Z, only it sounds cooler to keep it in the Greek. He continues this illustration by stating it bluntly. This is used to illustrate that God was there from the start, which is easy to understand, until we ask what happened before! Well God ensures it’s crystal clear in this verse stating He “always was”.

I know time becomes a difficult concept since we really need a “beginning and an end” to parameterize our vision. Everything in our experience has both except for time and space. We look out into space and think we see an “end” but in actuality there is none, it just keeps going. Think about it, if there was an end what would be on the other side? Time is the same way, what happened before? Well more time! How about when time ends, what happens after? More time!

The concept of “infinity” is something we can eventually wrap our heads around for time and space, but what about God? If there was NOTHING, what did the universe come from? What was there before? When you start looking at the solid, that’s when infinity becomes a difficult concept. Space and time are nothing and therefore could go forever, but what about this Rock. Where did it come from? Where did the cosmic dust come from? How about God, where did He come from? What was the rock made from? Who created God?

See it becomes mind blowing when you try to wrap your brain around that concept. I like to think of God as energy more than a person. That then becomes a concept I start to grasp. Energy, like God, has always been, will always be and can never be created or destroyed. This is why God is more than we can ever understand. Sure we may be able to grasp a bit of His glory, even if He materialized before us it would still be difficult to comprehend. That is the fun of learning more about God, the more you understand the larger He becomes. The larger you see Him, the more intense the personal relationship becomes! You have to wonder, how could “infinity” care for little ‘ole me? But HE DOES and that’s the cool part!
