John 6:35 –
Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
Every believer in Jesus can honestly say they need to eat. As much as we dive into Jesus’ arms, we still need food. As back then, people questioned the meaning of what Jesus was saying. How can we live on a person, do we eat his physical flesh? His words become very difficult to put into physical perspective, but when you apply them to a spiritual one they quickly make sense.
Think about people who drift in various fads of “enlightenment”. Most keep hopping from one to the other, because none really satisfy the soul. It’s not until one actually gets into and accepts Jesus that their spirit is at rest. One finds peace is Jesus and His living water. We are not physically eating or drinking Jesus, we are figuratively drinking His message. We consume His words and find we never need to look any further, because we have settled into the truth.
Now this chapter is all about feeding people where Jesus starts by feeding 5000 from 5 barley loves and 2 fish. I don’t care how big the fish were, even that $750,000 tuna could not feed that many. One could argue people were easily satisfied with little, but how did they gather so many leftovers? This is something the people saw, but today we need something more. We are not going to see Jesus perform these miracles and have to rest on the miracle of feeding our soul with his living “soul food.” Read His words and let them satisfy your spirit so you may have the everlasting life Jesus promised.
