My mother made some great comments on Paul’s thorn and got me to thinking … oops;-)
If Paul had thought it was important to say what that thorn was he would have said. Therefore the information is not needed or our business. Where we get into problems is when we speculate on what the “underlying” meaning was or what may have happened. When this happens we can quickly go down the rabbit trail of false doctrines and justifying many sins.
I tend to believe the Bible is simple and there are no deep underlying secrets. The only thing that gets deep is when we get clarity on something we are reading. Not reading between the lines and developing unsubstantiated theories, for example like Paul was gay.
If it’s not written, it’s not needed for our development. Now that’s not saying that after decades of reading the Bible we can’t get sometime new out of a verse we know by heart. We can’t read into the Bible what we want, but we must read out of the Bible what God wants!!
