Song of Songs 2:7 –
Promise me, O women of Jerusalem, by the gazelles and wild deer, not to awaken love until the time is right.
Making sure the time is right for love is important to God. Much of the time we confuse the feelings of lust or become overwhelmed by the close intimate Agape love that often we confuse these emotions with Eros love. God is saying let love grow before making a commitment for life. Let love blossom into something described here and not wither because it was never “right” in the first place. In order to do this one must take time and learn to listen to ones prompt.
One of the most common complaints you here at a marriage counseling is all that’s persons bad habits. Over and over the complaints go on about how this person does this or doesn’t do that. Then the question is asked, did they do this before you got married and usually the answer is yes. The key is we are not Jesus; we cannot transform someone into a new person. Love can arrest some issues in the short term, but most will return unless that love is deep and true in each of you.
Solomon again writes a beautiful chapter on love and the next verses also caught my eye, read it and see if you agree. Here it’s the individual waiting for the return of their lover. Have you ever been in a situation where time dragged on waiting for that special person to return? Ollie is a perfect example of this each and every time Mama leaves. He stares at the point where she left until her return. And then he goes wild and howls when she returns home. Don’t howl when they return, but make sure you excitement is true and bask in the emotion.
