Romans 10:9 –
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
This is the Gospel boiled down into one verse. Salvation is not real complex and all the books of the Bible point to this one concept. It’s simple when you really think about it. Salvation can be boiled down into a simple ABC’s: Accept Christ as Lord, Believe He died for our salvation and Confess our sins before Him. After that it’s just a pursuit in knowing God.
Where the Bible becomes complex is really understanding God. It’s difficult to understand in one sitting who an all knowing (omniscient), all present (omnipresent) and eternal God is, hence why we personify Him. Initially it’s easier to wrap our arms around a father figure who has a body than some big energy field. The cool thing is God has given us the Bible to learn and pursue the study of God.
Once your salvation is secure you are ready for heaven, but how about the rest of your time here? Think about this “relationship” like an earthly relationship. You start dating someone, it’s not just a “hey let’s get married”, but more of a day to day time exploring that person to get to really know them. Our time with God should be the same, each day trying to learn more and more about Him. Heck, I have spent roughly 40 years loosely trying to do this and still am learning something new each day.
So make time to read and pray after you have taken the “easy” steps to salvation. It will not secure you a better place in heaven but it WILL help you in your travels here on earth. Also, it will help you bring others to the joy and salvation you know. Believe me, it also makes your day to day life easier to understand and cope with as your knowledge of God grows.
