Deuteronomy 4:39 –
“So remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The LORD is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other.”
This is an interesting chapter with many subjects I want to touch on. The first second we dedicated to the commands God gave Moses, and verse 2 explained how we were not to add to them. The next section was very detailed about idols and idolatry. I often wonder if the “cross” is an idol that Christian’s worship. Then we get into being only one God. Think about how many “religions” and “gods” have come and gone throughout history. Think about the Greek gods and how many survived past that society. The “eastern” religions such as Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism all survive today without a “god” or so many “gods” there effectively is none are the only major ones outside not worshiping God.
The point in this verse is God is more than just an old guy in the heavens looking down upon us. No God is here and with us every day. Where God gets confused is when we try to make God into “our” image and not realize God made us in HIS! God is more like an energy that is everywhere than a person. Our “image” which reflects God is the “conscious energy” that drives the meat suit we live in.
This becomes a concept that people get very confused on since God is everywhere and knows all, yet He made us in His image, which means He can’t do it all. We must change our “image” of God to understand God. There is no reason to “personify” God, but to realize God as He really is. It’s really expanding to understand God more closely to the point He is not a person, but well beyond anything we could ever imagine!
