Psalm 148:14 –
He has made his people strong, honoring his faithful ones— the people of Israel who are close to him. Praise the LORD!
As we finish out the last chapters in Psalms I notice a theme of praise to the Lord. We get all caught up in the day to day activities and many times forget to do this. These help us to focus our attention on God and realize the day to day grind is worthy of praise. Now this one was real general until I got to this point. If you really think about it the nation of Israel is very small and has enemies surrounding them.
As we focus on what has happened just in the last 100 years, things start coming into perspective when you read this verse. Think about what has happened to them, they almost get erased, then they get their lands back and have had many attacks since, but they still persist. If you look back in history, you see this has been going on through most of recorded history. God has given favor on this nation because they honor Him and were set aside.
Today they are threatened daily on every border. They have nuclear powers emerging very close, yet they still survive. Our nation, an ally, has started to throw them to the wolves. I have expressed concern that we as a nation are losing favor with God, this may be the straw. I think some amazing things are going to start to unfold before our eyes, time will tell how we respond. I know praising God should be the top of everyone’s list!
