How is Your “Home” Constructed?

Psalm 127:1 –

Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.

This gets into the root of our Christian walk with God; it’s a “foundational” principle. This is illustrating life and not just building a home. Look at all your endeavors in life and how many are actually rooted in God? We get all wrapped up in this book or that one about the various endeavors we are starting. But do we turn back to the Bible and focus on the teachings there? It’s amazing how many subjects are covered here and how rarely we go explore there first.

To build a good house you first need to start with a solid foundation. This “foundation” can easily be sorted out by reading the Bible. I am not saying read it all to build your foundation, but some “basic” chapters I would ensure I understand for a start would be Genesis, Exodus, Matthew, James and the “John’s”. The OT reading will give you the foundation of what Jesus is about and WHY he had to die a horrible death for our salvation. You’ll more greatly understand what being “born again” is actually.

As you work on your foundation, develop a prayer life and talk with God. Bring Him your concerns, burdens, questions and joys. It feels odd think something or speaking to an empty room, but soon you will find comfort and see the work in your life through awesome coincidences. Once the foundation is “set” now it’s time to continue the reading and praying and finish the home out! Now one thing to remember is once this home is complete it requires constant maintenance to ensure the soundness of the structure.

Also, you must learn to guard your beliefs or you will be like chafe in the wind. If you just stand on your own and expect to be able to handle any attack you are wrong. As you built your “home” and developed that relationship with God, your ability to trust in Him grows and therefore your life will be guarded. I am not saying it’s sunshine and blue skies, but it’s a “hell” of a lot better than the alternative!
