Psalm 125:3 –
The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong.
This cuts deep when you think about it. One could say that been happening in our country for years depending on whose side you were on. I don’t want to get into a political diatribe about this president or that but focus a little more close to home. Really the politicians can only go so far in moving our foundations, but they have been successful at nudging us in directions that may or may not be right. But the focus for today is where your foundation could be shaken overnight and that is with your circle of friends.
Before I went to college I had had only a few drinks, was “pure” and tried to follow God. But college changed everything, my circle of friends changed radically. To them it was ok to drink until you puked and then drink more. Most treated women as objects and some saw nothing wrong with using drugs. That shook my foundations since most, if not all, were upper classman who “ruled” the fraternity.
I would love to say that I resisted their temptation, but that would be a lie. For about 9 years of my life it was more about living under the influence of their rule than God’s. Sure I have a ton of regrets from this time from my blatant disregard for God’s instructions. You children were the ONLY really wonderful product of that period in my life! Because of you this new foundation was shaken to the core and my life was refocused towards God!
All I can pray is that you will learn that your sphere of friends is a greater influence that you can imagine. Ensure these are Godly people. Don’t think that you will have the power to change all your friends, because I can say with almost 100% certainty that will not happen. Not saying you can’t do that but the term “I got your back” comes to mind when being attacked. You need someone to fall back to when your core is being attacked or you could look at a comedian as the bringer of spiritual truth!
