Psalm 124:1 –
What if the LORD had not been on our side? Let all Israel repeat:
What if!? That is a big “what if” in my book. In this chapter they are describing the “what if” when people were attacking Israel. This particular verse could be used all over the place; it could start many of the Psalms. Really think about God not being on our side. I know many would say where is He now?
But this is something that gets to the core of our faith. What would be your answer to this question? How about during your entire Christian walk? Or do you just hear from God intermittently? That’s really a tough question when you think about it. We experience God daily yet we tend to ignore His presence. God is not a pop in/pop out friend, but rather someone who is with us all the time.
We like to think of God as a person and therefore give Him human qualities, like being by our side. But we forget God “omnipresent” or everywhere. We tend to think if things aren’t going our way then God is somewhere else doing other things. Maybe things are not going our way because of our own actions? God is there fighting for us, but we just keep filling up the boat He is bailing out!
I know most, if not all, of the times I call on God to help me, it’s because I am doing stupid stuff. It’s amazing that we have God’s guidebook and we just ignore it. Then we expect God to jump in a put us back on track. Then we will be following the “Word” and nothing seems to be happening … we ask where is God? God is not a genie at our beckon call! We just have to open our eyes to His presence and see He is by us all the time!
