Timeless God

Psalm 90:4 –

For you, a thousand years are as a passing day, as brief as a few night hours.

You know this Psalm is depressing when you look at the “big picture” through God’s eyes. We are just a blip on this earth and at least our bodies will return to dust in a short time. Eternal is something that’s hard to grasp when your only reference is a few years. Yet for some reason we feel some kind of importance on this earth. Some feel that furthering their kingdom is more important that furthering God’s.

As I read this Psalm, I wondered why? And the list of “whys” could go on forever! Biggest thing that bothers me is why our time on this earth is so short? We have life spans from 1 minute up to 115 or so years and when compared to “time” both durations are about the same. That is where Jesus’ life is so amazing! Think of it, he died in his 30’s yet has influenced the world 2000 years later. That alone should be the most solidifying part of our faith. Think about how much a “religion” gets tested by others, and for 2000 years Christianity still survives.

So what does this mean? Do we stop trying to better our lives and just push the kingdom of God? No, God created a system of trade so that man could produce and work. God knew we would get lazy if it was all handed to us, so work is a great thing. As you know your parents may have taken it too far, but on the bright side unlike most work-a-holics we could invite you into our job and spend some time with you.

Now I believe God wants us to have a great life, but He does want to hand us that life. It’s something we must work for and pursue. Sure we should never put Christ on the back burner while our jobs take center stage. No we need to ensure our efforts not only help us survive, but glorify God! We need to work hard, but not forget family, community and others who may need help. So does that mean reliance on self and not God? Nope, that mean make and effort and He will be there for you! You are not going to win the lottery, but you may win at life if your pursuits are pure.
