Exodus 15:26 – (please note – some dated stuff here, this was a 2008 post being updated in 2012)
He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.”
The final few words are translated from the original text as “Yahweh Rapha” or “The Lord that heals”. It’s tough to believe this sometimes with all the suffering we see in the world today. Why would God allow this to happen when He could with one act heal everyone??
I look specifically at my friend Alex Croxton. I knew Alex in college and can remember him being Godly then also. His son Brice is a very Godly kid and he walks a very straight path. This past winter he was in an accident with left him paralyzed from the waist down. Through watching them I see their walk with God has not changed other than Brice is rolling now. From time to time I ask why not show your glory and have him walk again, but at the same time the whole family is a picture of faith showing people that life’s major setbacks are not something that should weaken our faith. I wish God would end the suffering that comes in life, but it’s something I think is part of life and for the time is something that will not change.
The other thing I noticed in this chapter is they are traveling through the desert for 3 days without water, they finally find some and it is bitter. So the people are complaining, again!! This is where he says this, hoping all will be well. As we know, people tend to mess things up if they are not guided correctly. This is where church helps keep ones focus. Granted churches are never perfect, but the key is our walk with God was never meant to be alone.
On a different note, for those who have been reading along and have seen “The Ten Commandments” staring Charlton Heston as Moses. It’s interesting how Hollywood changes Gods story for effect. The parting of the sea is a great example where Hollywood had Moses raise his hand, the sea split and they walked. In reading the bible this event happens overnight so the wind which split the sea could dry the ground they were going to walk on. Just some details I love to look at while reading.

Proverbs 1:5 – “Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance”
