Genesis 2:16-17 –
<16> But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden—<17> except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
Man was in paradise, everything he could possibly need … with only one rule. At least one stated rule. But even then man messed up and blew a “sure thing”!
How would we like to live like this? Would it be paradise or chaos?? With sin in the world, we would be living in chaos no matter how hard we tired to make it beautiful!! We know what is right and wrong is most cases and it’s difficult to not do what you want most of the time. We have learned to justify almost anything, some have even gotten good at making sin “Biblical”!
Rules are there not to be broken, but to be followed. Yes there are some rules you can question, but breaking them outright is not the way to go!! Rules are there for a reason, to protect us from others and ourselves!!
Why did God not want them to eat from the tree of knowledge?? Would it give them knowledge equal to God?? Or would it make them aware of God’s majesty?? Not sure there … but the rule was set.
Wonder what happens next??
Proverbs 22:3 –
“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.“
