1 John 1:9 –
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
Now we have become saved and are forgiven of all our sins. But that does not mean we will not sin again!! As you may already know … salvation did not make us holy and free of sin. It just gives us a connection to God!! Sin is one of those things that just creeps back into our lives, salvation does not protect us.
I think John says both salvation (John 3:16) and confession the easiest for me to understand …basically this says we need to keep confessing our sins … we need to acknowledge that we have sinned and need to express to God the remorse for not following his path. I don’t think God is looking for a blanket “forgive me for I have sinned” … I think he wants the laundry list … it also makes us aware!!
This is not the “E” ticket*** to sin … don’t fall into the trap, “hey if I confess doing this I will be ok” … yes you’ll be ok, but you WILL miss many blessings because you were not clean before God!! Kids, I have done this and can say this all to be true. What happens is you get so use to sin you start forgetting to confess and pray …
Open the lines when you pray … make sure you are in connection with God … when praying, CONFESS first!! God will be more likely to listen when you have done this.
