Ecclesiastes 10:10 –
Using a dull ax requires great strength, so sharpen the blade. That’s the value of wisdom; it helps you succeed.
When cutting trees, I have learned that a sharp blade makes up for a lack of strength. No matter if you are working with an ax or a chain saw. Things go so much faster if you take some time and sharpen the blade. There was a log-cutting contest on who could cut the most in one day. The contestants were one big lumberjack and one skinny kid who went to chopping. The day wore on and the big one was non-stop going like a mad man, wood flying all over. While this was going on, the kid was taking a break every half hour or so. Now, at then end of the day, you guesses it, the kid won. When the big lumberjack asked HOW when you took so many breaks? The kid said, “I was NOT TAKING A BREAK, I was SHARPENING MY AX!!”
How does this apply to other things? Well think of you mind as the ax and life as the tree! If you take time to sharpen it daily, you will have a much easier time working on problems. Consider your education, which by the way never stops even for us old guys!! If you do not study you fail … surprisingly that is very similar to every day life. You need to stay on top of the “game” or else someone else will!
Mom and dad are excellent examples of this. Mom works on projects and does it, over again and again until it’s right. While dad thinks about it and thinks about it, then does it. Interestingly both take the same amount of time … just one takes less physical effort and one less mental.
Keep this in mind for the spiritual battles also, keep you mind sharp to avoid the devils attacks!! Read the Bible whenever you can and pray constantly.
