Is God in Control Over Everything? What is “Chance”?

Ecclesiastes 9 –

Ecclesiastes 9 today … this is not the most fun of chapters. But it then bugs to question does God control everything??

<11>I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time. <12> People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.

To us life may seem sudden and “by chance,” but look at the coincidences and how they link into a beautiful play. Coincidence is Gods way of saying "hey” and I have had so many instances where God said I am here and looking after you, it’s almost spooky. If it happens in finding a drill, or getting a watch, or hearing a message there are times you just know God was involved.

For a nicer version of this in Luke 21 Jesus says:

“<34> “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, <35> like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.”

The same basic message only a tad nicer. Keep your spirits high even with this sober message. We all must go, so as yesterday said you must enjoy what you have and work hard!!

A PS to remember”

<17> Better to hear the quiet words of a wise person than the shouts of a foolish king.

Hopefully I am a Wise dad, not just a wise guy;-)
