Isaiah
\n7 \u2013 11<\/p>\n
This is the start of Isaiah\u2019s prophecies of Jesus, the
\nMessiah. Verse 7:14 is the first in Isaiah:<\/p>\n
Suit yourself.<\/i>
\nThe Lord will give you a proof-sign anyway: See, a young maiden will conceive.
\nShe will give birth to a son and name Him Immanuel, that is, \u201cGod with us.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
A
\n\u201cyoung maiden\u201d implies a virgin, but apparently is not directly translated from
\nthe Hebrew. The Complete Jewish Bible, which is my \u201cgo to\u201d for OT translations,
\nalso uses \u201cyoung woman\u201d and not virgin. That may have been translated to
\n\u201cvirgin\u201d in other translations to help clarify the significance (since at that
\ntime \u201cyoung maidens\u201d were virgins). Either way Mary fits the definition of this
\nprophecy. <\/p>\n
Look
\nat other verses within this reading and you will see many prophecies that Jesus
\nfulfills. Verses 9:1 & 2 are where Isaiah talks about Jesus\u2019 Galilean
\nministry. Verses 9:7, 11:1 and 11:10 all talk about Jesus being from the throne
\nof David. These were being told to Ahaz to ensure he understood the importance
\nof maintaining the throne of David. So where Isaiah\u2019s words ring so clear
\ntoday, they were of utmost importance then. These words were not to only to
\nencourage us today, but were also for encouragement to King Ahaz (granted what
\nis happening to Ahaz is not necessarily good at the time).<\/p>\n
Verse
\n10:15 reminds us that we are not the ones who get credit for anything we do:<\/p>\n
But wow, are
\nthey ever mistaken! Assyria seems to think it has used God.<\/i>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Can
\nan ax take credit instead of the one who swings it?
\nIs a saw better than the one who uses it?
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Only
\nif a club or rod can move on its own.<\/p>\n
This is really the key when you think of
\nit. We are really not to take credit for anything. I just reread my blog on
\nCreation vs Evolution and realize that was not me. I just was the conduit to
\nattempt to explain where God is in play to an atheistic scientific community.
\nWhere did we get the skills? Where did we get the words? How did things happen
\nthe way they did? We are not in control of any of this, it\u2019s more how we manage
\nwhat we are given is the key.<\/p>\n
Verse 10:33 reminds us to be humble:<\/p>\n
But wait,<\/i>
\nlook! The Lord, the Eternal, Commander of heavenly<\/i> armies, will
\nprotect you;<\/i>
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0He
\nwill cut the arrogant and self-serving down to size<\/i>.
\nWith terrifying power He will prune Assyria\u2019s branches,
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0hack
\ndown the high and mighty, and humble all those who think they\u2019re so great.<\/p>\n
Remember God will do as he promises and
\nwill always be faithful. I know when you are in the mire of life it doesn\u2019t
\nmake sense, but clarity always comes at the back end. That is the key to peace
\nand faith in God. I think of Kipling\u2019s poem \u2018If\u201d which says \u201cif you can keep
\nyour head, while those around you are losing theirs.\u201d In the poem this was the
\nmeasure of a man, while in life it\u2019s our relationship with God. I can go on and
\non about life\u2019s little \u201cproblems\u201d that ended up being a blessing. One is the
\nsale of our home in Buford. It unwound into a 6 month fiasco that was ugly and
\nstressful. I actually remained calm for the most part and watched things
\nunfold. The end we see it was actually better to delay the eventual sale since
\nit appears the money that we would have left would have been squandered on
\nimprovements that may now be abandoned. Again we will see what\u2019s on the other
\nend, but my faith is that God is doing great things and the end is HIS will,
\nnot mine!!<\/p>\n
